Hello Fat Jockeys,

Every horse ‘with a chance’ discussed with the exception of him. I know Davy doesn’t talk up his rides too often, but not one of the panel mentioned him. Agree with Ista from way back, think he has a massive chance.
I've noticed that, its criminal. He's the winner ffs

Not so sure about being the winner Charlie but he warranted a mention haha!

I think Galopin is just the class act in the field. Just looks such an improved horse this year in the fact they’ve been able to switch him off and place him within runners. I’ve tried to get a few multiples with him as the last leg…..if they go that far

He’s a good winner for me and I think he’s a big player and maybe a tad underestimated.
I am a little bit concerned about him getting home strong enough over this distance though, maybe others are more concerned?

But I can see why the confidence is there, as like I said, I wouldn't disagree.
It's just the likely make up of the race points to him being a bigger price IMO.
I'm not crabbing his price because I'm not on either. It's an assessment of his chances in the race itself now we are nearing the day itself.

On the markets topic, it was not meant to come across like that. But IMO it's obvious, based on my experience.
There are factors that could make either of us correct in the end on this "above or below 2-1", but on balance at the moment I'd say he is layable for the bookies.
May depend on how the festival goes of course.
Think we can call that a score draw as he was 2/1 in a couple of places yesterday.

However, as that was my biggest ever win and with no cash outlay, I'll be indulging in Penderyn Welsh whisky and full on smug mode tonight.

                Congrats archie enjoy it.
Hope you're drunk on it tomorrow also, as I've had a decent bet on the Kangaroo that can't jump

I was surprised they didn't push him out further, but however deep the race was beforehand, they, and the backers were proved right.
Maybe the tough week the bookies had, played a part - but they definitely went on the defensive side.

I think we might be in a special era for jumps racing (on the track especially) with quite possibly one of the best hurdlers and chasers we've ever seen.

                • RPRs:
                  184 GDC
                  175 BMG

For the record, apart from a 191 in the KG where he trounced rubbish, Kauto Star's best RPR was 185.

GDC needs to achieve a lot more to be compared to one of the greats imo

                    • You can only really compare once careers are over. I suspect Punchestown followed by a similar campaign (Savills Chase as well?). Yes, but if comes back and wins next year's Gold Cup, he's way on the way to doing so.

I don’t think he’s better than Kauto, but it’s absolutely fair that folk are comparing the two. When a horse is so superior to his contemporaries, you naturally look to history for comparatives.

Well you might do, but for me it’s something that can never be proved so not much point really.
If people want to compare at least wait until the horse has one a darn sight more top top races over a career than one Gold Cup, however impressive he looked.

Yep, he would be on his way with another impressive GC performance.

As far as I have read, no one has said "GDC is better than KS". They've talked about the two horses in the same breath because they've similar ratings and were probably the most visually impressive winners of the GC in the last 20 years. No ones getting carried away; they're just enjoying current and past performances. Seems fair enough to me.

I personally have no issue with comparing performances.
I quite often do that myself.
And if that’s what’s happening here then fine.

I’m talking more about comparing them as a horse, and prefer to wait until I have a lot more information than I have now.
I know what KS achieved, I have no idea what GDC will.
