  • I suppose for me, he has answered every question he's been asked so far while the rest have questions and haven't seen anything today to make me question his credentials. The fact that people have made lofty comparisons doesn't change his chances.

Outside of knowing he is going straight there is there any word on APT? He will have only won 1 in 4 from a 4+ month layoff.

I thought Galopin never looked better than at the end of the race, but can also say the same of Stattler, and I'm not convinced Fury Road is an out and out stayer, so it may have looked like both were staying really well against a non stayer, IMO.

My big single winner is Conflated and I'm glad Gordon has a line through Fury Road on them now, I think he goes with a right chance.
I keep seeing people mentioning FR not being a stayer but I'm honestly not sure what people have been seeming to suggest he wants a drop in trip vs 3m. Outside of today with the mistake at the last he is always staying on at the end of his races. If anything I think he's a potential national horse if he could be in the mid 150s

His win at middle distance was beating Delvino on the line, not like he battered Fakir or a decent yardstick

APT was ridiculously impressive last year off a slow pace, and Stattler (and others) should be suited if they go hell for leather.

I don't think he's the penalty kick that plenty of people seem to think he is.

        It's a fascinating race imo.
Don’t get penalty kicks in the gold cup, and yes it is a fascinating race.
I would say that backers of GDC will be happy, and backers of Conflated and Bravemansgame(like me) will also be happy.
Basically today told me it’s still alive for those mentioned and another one or two.
        Great stuff.

Bravemansgame and French Dynamite as selections.

I'm not sure you can be trusted

Neither will even get close to placing.

          • Watched Galopin back again and still don't see a negative.........

            • Galopin looked like a proper stayer today, finished off the race very strongly and to my untrained eye the gold cup trip would be ideal.

He didn't answer the question of the final fence of Cheltenham last season.

                Jumped fairly scrapilly.

Fury Road got him off the bridle today.

                Didn't travel particularly brilliant
                Plenty to query about him.

Is he the likeliest winner? Yes

Has he shown yet that he is better than the APT we saw last year? No

Did he look like a proper stayer today though?

Stattler loosk like a 'proper stayer' ... as in, got outpaced and stayed on....

GDC was able to run alongside The Big Bite.... which any horse with any speed can, then sprinted away?

I don't think watching today I feel GDC will definitely get 3m2f .... I'm scared a donkey like Noble Yeats will get him

I can't see noble yeats being anywhere near close to get him, i may well be wrong but think he will be burned off before the business end.

I was most impressed with gdc today with how he finished the race, maybe I'm mistaking him sprinting away with him being a stayer but today certainly hasn't put me off him. Only 6 weeks and we will find out.

                    • I'm going to watch this sober in the morning.

But it sounds a bit like my fear that a proper donkey stayer will win a horrible viewing Gold Cup. Please let GDC prevent that

                      • To me it just seems like this is a typical scenario of trying to get the favourite beat, they rode him differently this time and got him in a battle in which he ran from the line very strongly in against an out and out stayer in stattler, what more do people want?

They won't go quick enough for a donkey stayer to win

With only ahoy senor as the real pace option really can't see them going a punishing pace

Haha, I’m not sure either Kev.
They were more tentative bets when I placed them, and at 28 and 33 respectively I’m ok with them.
Do I think either will win? Not really, but the more I think about the KG the more I think BMG chances are real.
And given the right conditions I think FD can be competitive in his race.
As for my bets, re Gold Cup, Conflated is the one I’m most excited about, did the double from Xmas and for March, and I think he’s the main threat to GDC.
Im also gradually getting NY on side, can see him running on strong and benefiting from any iffy staying from the class runners.
Aint got a penny on GDC, just a few multiples with him
on the last leg, so wish me luck there!!
Ive not done too many Antepost singles, plenty of multiples though!!
Of the singles I have done Got Edwardstone, Home by the lee and Tahmuras at nice prices and a few others that are shorter now.
Will be playing a fair bit after final decs, there’s a few shorties I’ve missed out on, so have some work to do
                            Wish you luck with yours

                            • I don't have a bean on GDC so would be delighted to see some 7/2 on the day as was suggested by someone earlier.
He did everything he was asked to yesterday, he was impressive, these stayers have to come off the bridle and I see it as a positive that he responded to a slap, but this was 3m at Leopardstown in Feb, not 3m 2.5f at Cheltenham in March and if there's pace and it is made a true test he could get found out.
Stattler has every chance of reversing form and if HDB can get A Plus Tard there you'd have to think his class could prevail.
Like ComplyOrDie my biggest winner is Conflated but I'd be concerned about it becoming a brutal slog.
For me the smart money right now is on Stattler.

Faugheen_Machine suggestion of place laying GDC is valid, but also back him to win and cover your stake because he could prove us wrong and hose up, but no question if a Stattler or APT goes past two out he won't be flogged to death to hold onto third...

Same here regarding staying, think he's got pace and stamina. for me its the ground thats important to him not the distance. Could be a decent national shout too if he got good spring ground.
