He's brilliant isn't he. Comfortably top 6 staying chaser and he looks to have improved again. Was a very nice price today especially first time up which he is so good at He'll maybe this year be one I'll add on the day should conditions be right. Was run off his feet last year on the drying ground and would need it to be Soft for me to get closer this time. He and Stattler are two nice bullets for Ronnie to throw at the race though especially with the exceptional prize fund. The place money right the way down is a big draw for owners and trainers alike.

          He's a good solid grade 1 horse

Not quite got the class for a gold cup

          Last year showed that

Still don't think the XC is out of the question. To be honest if he was beaten well today then he'd barely even be good enough for the XC! It's his next race or two that will likely decide his Cheltenham destination, and possibly how good Statler looks if the owner's making the call.

Although not seen any post race comments.

Even his trainer said he doesn't give him the credit he deserves.

He'll suprise a few more people yet. What a super little horse he is.

If the ground is genuinely Soft next March then he'll go close. He'll be pushing for the places again whatever the weather.

Conflated may well join Galvin at Down Royal according to Gord.

Plus if GDC is a monster there is no way a small owner with a few horses will run both into him. Galvin will always be in favour on here because of THAT run, he owes us nothing, but he’s not a Gold Cup horse IMO and if he were the notion of the XC wouldn’t even be mentioned, let alone an option.

But he is a Gold Cup horse isn't he ? He ran in it and was placed in it this season and actually beat this year's winner on merit at Leopardstown to earn his place in it. We forget only one horse can win the Gold Cup every year. Does that mean that every other horse that places/runs in the race is not a Gold Cup horse ? His win today giving away more weight than last year and according to Gordon not as fit as last year, suggests he's better than ever. Surely we shouldn't condemn him to the naughty step that is the XCC just yet ?! He's better than that.

When I say a ‘Gold Cup horse’ I mean a likely Gold Cup winner, not just a contender. Nothing about what Gordon Elliott said in that post race interview screamed Gold Cup. He actually said Down Royal was his Gold Cup which tells me all I need to know. He’s a fine horse but I wouldn’t touch double his current gold price at this moment in time.

                          • Could Run Wild Fred be a cross country horse? No doubt he'll run in the national again but just wondering where he'd go in march.

if i had to guess i would think Irish Grand National , quotes today suggest big field handicaps

                              • Apparently GDC had a ‘hiccup’ and missed a week but is back now. Unsure whether he’ll be out at Christmas. Not ideal however you look at it.

Edit: Including link to the interview (3min40secs) https://www.racingtv.com/videos/watch/ondemand/136618
