So, I have been a long time lurker, and this forum is just great, I have learned so much from it. I was going to get involved after Cheltenham last year, but got a bit side tracked, so I thought I better just bite the bullet with the new season starting!
My first post is probably going to make me seem absolute bonkers. A lot of the horses I do fancy at the moment have been put up already, so I do not want to repeat stuff already being said just for the sake of it!
This is very much a long shot, but I am optimistic about the chances of Eldorado Allen being placed in the gold cup. He is currently 100/1 with Betfair/Paddy Power (110/1 with boost).
Now to win the race I think a bit of a miracle is needed, it looks like at the moment it is going to be a decent renewal, but if he was ridden to place and there was some decent pace on I think there is a chance he could run on and take a place.
To me he has always shaped like a stayer to me, so I think 3m plus will see the best of him. He won the Denman chase last year at his first attempt at the trip beating some decent yardsticks (although sounds like Clan needed the run), then went back down in trip to the Ryanair, and then went on to Aintree where I think he was over the top following the Ryanair, so hopefully this year they stick to 3m plus, and he can perform during the season to be given a chance in the race.
If you exclude his county hurdle run, he does have a decent record at the track, winning the grade 2 novice chase back in November 2020, then 2nd in the Arkle where he ran on after others had cut each others throats, (where I seen him as a stayer and he seemed like he had been ridden on for a place). Then last festival he came 3rd (Probably 4th if conflated stayed up) in the Ryanair, where I did think he was ridden more for the win that day compared to others which did cost him 2nd in the end as he had no chance vs Allaho.
Bit of a bonkers out of the box pick (so do not judge me fully on this!) but I do hope we get to see the best of him in 3m races this year and can end up having a run in the Gold Cup come March!
He's come up against some big names, and ran really well considering, especially in the Arkle and Ryanair - he's decent and could pick up some good GB races this year
But I'm aligned with Joe's comments, made last month, I think he wants a easy 3 miler. I actually see him having a good change in the King George if he went to Haydock and ran well. Then again, why take on A Plus Tard, then again... why not
Both Cue Card and Lostintranslation benefited with a run under their belt before going to the Betfair Chase. Both went off extremely short for the King George
“The first plan last season was the Haldon Gold Cup, and though some questioned how strong the Denman was I wasn’t complaining. He then went to the Ryanair at Cheltenham (finishing third) but was over the top by the time we went to Aintree.
“I want to pick and choose to get it right and he needs to tell me he is good enough to run in a King George for me to save him for one.”
I think the play (for me anyway) is to back him for the big races this half of the season, with a view that he could shorten massively for the King George. I would imagine the Charlie Hall would be a small field affair, and could be a easy and nice early victory for him. Then Joe has the open to try and beat A Plus Tard at Haydock (and why not, he has a quick horse there with race fitness). Doesnt even have to win, pick up some prize money and giving connections a view of how close this lad is against the every best. Not sure whether Allaho runs in the King George, if he does then thats another race which could go to a seasoned ex-ryanair horse (Cue Card/Frodon/Tornado Flyer)
Great point for the Gold Cup, but I think he's best chances are before the 2nd of Jan

Love a 100/1 tip... the holy grail.
Welcome to the forum
Tis not a weak looking year...looks a deep race to me at the moment, but things can change quickly!
Gut feeling is that Eldorado Allen isn't a G1 winning in waiting... but placing, perhaps (again)!
I do think he's the kind of horse you'd get 100/1 about e/w after a few have hit the wayside, but I like it.
I do agree I think he has better chance picking up some good pots in the first half of season, especially with some good race planning. It will be interesting to see his entries as the season unfolds. If the price is right I will be having a dabble on him in some early races.
The King George was on my mind too, more than the Gold Cup to be honest but I was keeping it more Cheltenham related haha. If no star comes over and it ends up with Bravemansgame as the top horse in the race, place claims and maybe even more if he has shown something already are up there. Hopefully he does go to the Charlie Hall and can give a good indication of the level he's at and if he can run well who knows!
Has it been confirmed anywhere that GDC is going to the gold Cup instead of the Ryan Air?
I'm just putting together a few small multiples and was about to use Allaho as one of my banking multipliers, and then it dawned to me that GDC could turn up in the Ryan Air instead considering WPM has atleast 4 other strong Stayers who could for the gold Cup (Stattler, Capadano, Monkfish and potentially Allaho after his 3m win last season).
Has WPM been quoted anywhere saying this will be GDCs target this season?

Quoted as saying he looks like a GC horse, but I think that's as far as it's gone so far.

Nothing concrete yet.
I posed the same sort of question last month (I think). I don't think it's as clear cut (yet, anyway) that Allaho goes for the Ryanair and GDC ends up in the Gold Cup. Like you, I believe there is a possibility Allaho could well step up to the GC after his 3m win at Punchestown.

We await the stable tour with bated breath!
Absolutely. Not convinced GDC will stay so Ryanair is a big possibility in which case Allaho could have a try at the GC in March. Very intriguing.
