  • GDC yes but huge question marks surrounding the other 3 for me. Let it all unfold.

    • Watching that race today, NY looked to
me the perfect Gold Cup horse, and Prot was finishing well.
I would say they both could figure in the Gold Cup, but Prot needs his ground.
Right now all things considered I would have Conflated and NY against the field.
But I do reserve the right to see if GDC stays 3m2f round chelt ……cos if he does!!!

      • How on earth is noble yeats still only 8/1?

I was assuming he would be 14s-16s now

Was out of his comfort zone the entire way round

Can see him running a minella rocco/anibale fly type race

Hard to see him being close enough to actually win if he travels like he did today

        • Today for Noble Yeats was his Ultima last year. The prep run, just out to keep the horse ticking over. That's why he's still 8-1.

Yeah, I can see him keeping on, staying up the hill and possibly placing. But winning? Surely he’s not quick enough? He just doesn’t look that comfortable going a real pace. If it became a real slog, perhaps he might win.

The more I look at this race, the more I like Stattler. Course form. You know he’ll stay. And that run against Minella Indo gave the encouragement that he has the pace (holding his own in that sprint finish) for a GC. Clearly his class hasn’t quite been shown and I think his price is too short for this point in time. But I quite like his profile.

He's the boat of all boats. He will be miles back and stay on for 6th.

At level weights over an extra furlong NY wins that yesterday imo.
I’m expecting a big run in March.
Just trying to get him onside now!!

                  • Can't be having NY at 7s / 8s at all, should be minimum double the price. Gonna get run off his feet and be staying on far too late for a 4th/5th place finish. Possibly 3rd if they are strung out.

Don't see how finishing behind Ahoy Senor and Sounds Russian (pre race 66/1 & 125/1 shots for the gold cup) is making people want to back him at single figure odds.

Yes, I was hoping he would drift, that’s why I’m struggling to get him onside.
I do think he will relish the gold cup conditions, but this is very competitive with a fav that has never ran 3m chasing, let alone 3m2 round Cheltenham , but could be a superstar !!
I think given time NY will be a bigger price at some point, maybe the day itself.
                      I be am hoping anyway.

                      • I'm afraid it's also getting more and more that we can't just fall back on the price of a horse being poor due to the activities of the bookmakers and their increasingly poor offerings this year.

Yes, for what horses have done, in many instances their prices are appalling, but they have us by the short and curlies. It's come to this and it's been getting tighter, year on year.

                        • I think you have to be patient with prices, as their is no way that some of these horses will be those prices on the day. Just look how the bookies were able to push prices out yesterday in similar type races we'll get at the festival.

You'll only benefit backing now if you expect another run and an improvement in the horses chances (ahoy senor was available at 50-1 before yesterday) or that a main rival or 2 will defect, but even then the markets on the day will swell and more value will appear for sure.

Guessing Emmet's horses price is a tricky one because it could drift to 20-1 or remain 2nd FAV. But logic tells me when the main bettors get involved he will drift as the form is not there.

I do think he is a danger on a very strongly run pace burn up type of Gold cup though and even a slowly run if he doesn't get too far back. Horses like this can go very close and win Gold cups beating classier animals.

                            • After seeing Energumene jumping in to the backs of other horses and possibly not enjoying being behind horses.
Is it a concern for backers of galopin des champs, that in a race like the gold cup, where he will likely have to be ridden in behind other horses, He could be in some danger of having similar problems?
A forward going type, exuberant jumper who could find 1 or 2 slower jumpers, slower horses in front of him?

                              • It’s a good point ^ and one to watch out for in the Irish Gold cup

i do think the champion chase is more competitive than the gold cup this year.

im sure they’ll let Energumene ride on, instead of trying to hold him back in March.
They may do the same with GDC, Denman like
