Is Epatante well covered by Honeysuckle?
Not so sure after watching both this season.
Im not sure either re Epatante and Marie’s.
Epatante well beaten by Honeysuckle twice and Marie's Rock once. Dont think there's much doubt to be had in where they stand with each other tbh.

Epatante this season beaten out of sight by CH on the bridle (no shame) and then shes beaten a load of rubbish over 2mile.

Not this season, and I’ve already explained why I have my opinion.
Dont think using CH is anything concrete.
Nor is Epatante winning her race anything concrete I agree…. that’s why I’m unsure as to this year’s festival.

        • French trainer Hugo Merienne has confirmed Henri Le Farceur, the Grade 2 Prix Leon Olry Roederer winner, is an intended runner in the Stayers’ Hurdle.

Given an RPR of 148 for his nine-length victory - looks to have a bit to find with the principles who’ve put out RPRs in the 160s.

33/1 with William Hill currently - can’t work out if that’s tempting for an EW price, or it will be bigger on the day.

            • To be fair to Henderson he said very early on that they may target Maries Rock at The Stayers this season. He presumably sees enough at home to suggest they can switch her off now, and she'll be less keen that she's shown previously. That has always been the key to her.

The Mares Hurdle also looks mad-competitive, so I'm not entirely convinced that Stayers is a worse alternative if the trainer thinks she gets the trip. There have been plenty of Stayers Hurdles winners that hadn't run at 3 miles beforehand.

I also think that with doubts surrounding Flooring Porter, Klassical Dream, and Blazing Khal, it woudl also help sway the decision. Splitting her and Epatante is irrelevant. They're in different ownership, so the owners must also agree with the plan if that's what ultimately happens.

For what it's worth if she were mine, if I thought she was a chance of winning the Stayers, I'd definitely go that way. Others would possibly see it differently of course, and favour the Mares Hurdle. The point is Henderson is hardly doing anything wrong, and it's a bit risky saying it's a bad decision before the race is run. I don't think with the shape of the Stayers any of us could say she doesn't have a chance.
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

              • I'm not sure splitting Epatante and Marie's Rock is irrelevant. They worked them together the other day and Epatante worked better over an extended two miles. Hendo may think that Epatante would have the beating of Marie's Rock over 2 1/2, potentially having too much pace for her, so avoiding Epatante and stepping MR up to 3 miles may be best for all parties.

                  I kind of agree.
He has consistently mentioned both races and even admitted recently that her running in the stayers may suit him more than the owners. So in that regard he's being sound.
I just know that trainers will use mind games when it suits, they are sales people most of them, and you and me both know those types well enough.

There is no doubt in my mind though that her chances of winning are greater in the mares than the stayers as it stands now.
If they all turn up in the stayers then I think it's a bigger gamble.
She's more than capable of winning the race though.

PS, I saw the clip of Tizzard saying he wants to go Ultima but owners were looking at supplementing for the BANC, I hope the zoom call went the right way. Sounds like it's the owners being overly ambitious on this occasion, which is more understandable.

Betfair have been all over the place with several horses in the last week none of which have come to anything so I for one am just ignoring the lot.

Probably a bit of both. Charles openly 'cool' on Blazing Khal at the Dubai preview night according to a fella I know in attendance.
