Yeah he was my first ante post for this year, clearly not the most straightforward but came there tanking last season and at various stages there were high hopes for this.
Also backed Sire du Berlais, looked better than ever at Aintree and as was pointed out by someone earlier this doesn't looked a wildly deep division and he retains his form throughout the season he could/should go close...

I've not had many single bets so far (5 I reckon)
But I like the chances of Thedevilscoachman. As previously mentioned back in the Spring.

Unexposed at the trip and the form and style of his win in the boyne hurdle stacks up
33-1 is about right based on form and the fact that they seem eager to have softish ground.
Definitely the type of horse that if he turned up on the day is likely to be a lot shorter (single figures maybe) but the odds suggest doubts about his participation at this point.

This ground preference must be specific to the individual horses physique but unless the stayers came up too good I think they'd run anyway as they've probably given up the option of chasing now. But ground would be a worry this far out. He was entered or left in at the 6 day stage of all the post Cheltenham graded staying hurdle races last season but the ground was used as an excuse each time he didn't declare.

I think he has the potential and ability to be useful, and should get his ground at some point in Ireland and be competitive over there over the Winter months.
He'll also only be turning 7 next March, which I like (5/6) in last 6 runnings.

Another negative aside from the ground is that he is only one or 2 runs from getting a chase mark and they may go back over fences for all I know.

He might actually be a good any race bet at 20-1+ but I cannot see him priced up anywhere.

Anyhow, I like him for the stayers hurdle and if he does run and win a good staying hurdle in Ireland over the Winter I think they'll enter him up and be keen to run unless it's quick.

Flooring Porter for me wins again but MI looks a decent EW alternative in a particularly weak/open looking year.
He's been my pick for this since his Aintree run. Think he's got a great chance. Hoping he turns up at Haydock in the Autumn so I can see him over the 3m there.

Not a fan of the horse in a strongly run race, but if FP tries to back them all up again this year and Thedevilscoachman is in behind, I think he'd be the one to have the pace to catch FP.

            That's the plan:

Harry Fry believes after two years at his base he knows precisely how to get the best out of his string of horses, which is headlined by Cheltenham... Read More

Flooring surely is the best value of all the reigning champions from the Championship races. Was the same with him last year and he proved all the doubters wrong. The race looks weaker to me this time around and he's still 5/1. If he were trained by Willie he'd be no bigger than 2's.

Bit of the Allaho quandary from last year that you know he's the on to beat but can't help but feel he's not going to win all his races through the season so fancy getting at least that as the season wears on(If only Allaho read the script last year and not become consistent!)

Apparently the Nicky Henderson owners brochure says Walking On Air stays over hurdles this season so does the Stayers Hurdle become a genuine long term target for him?

Tough one. Dam brings some stamina to the party but sire can get speedier types. He started off over 2m before moving up to 2m4f at Aintree. I had him down for the intermediate trip if he’d gone chasing so he could end up in no man’s land (in regards Cheltenham) this season over hurdles.

I'm shocked they aren't going novice chasing with him, especially after Nicky's comments following his Newbury win in January. "Will make the most beautiful chaser" essentially...

I guess it’s experience. Only a bumper and two hurdle runs to his name and one of those he ran no sort of race in.

Indeed. Suppose he's still only 5 so can have a campaign over hurdles and then consider novice chasing at 6 turning 7 depending how he gets on next season.

If you look at the horses in the betting behind Flooring Porter, I can see only 1 possibly running in it out of the next 10 or so and that's Klassical Dream!
Flooring just has to be one of, if not the best value horse currently priced up. If he were trained by Willie he'd be 2's at best.

Was just running through the past form of this race and have come up with the following notes:

                              1. Since the turn of the millennium there has only been one returning loser from the previous seasons race that has gone on to win the race the following season, and that was Iris's Gift, back in 2004.

                              2. The 9 year olds that have won this race since the turn of the millennium (3 horses) have either been defending champions (Inglis Drever & Big Bucks) or first time triers (Solwhit) over 3m.

                              3. Since 2000 the winners have come from the following routes from the previous seasons festival (or previous run at the festival if missed a season):

Stayers Hurdle - 8 winners, 7 of which were returning winners (Flooring Porter now adds his name to the list which includes Big Bucks, Inglis Drever & Baracouda)

No previous Cheltenham Festival Hurdles form - 6 winners

                              Albert Bartlett - 3 winners

                              Ballymore - 2 winners

                              Champion Hurdle - 2 winners
(Nichols Canyon came from the Ballymore as a novice hurdler as well)

Supreme Novice Hurdle - 1 winner

I'd say the stats heavily favour Flooring Porter currently, though he himself was one of the 'no previous Cheltenham Festival Hurdles form' horses for his first win in the race. Given he's still generally a 5/1 shot (and been bigger for the race) and is only going to be 8 years old come the time of the race I'd be amazed if he isn't in everyones books already though. Obviously something could come out of the woodwork, but there would be plenty of time to get that horse covered, I'd imagine.

Great stats COD. That's just it, I don't think he is in many books . The forgotten horse.
