  • In the last 10 years only Cue Card has followed up at Cheltenham from the Ascot Chase. 6/10 winners won by more than 10 lengths.

Is Pic Dorhy a proper mid 160s horse or is he just been well campaigned by Nicholls? what horse of any note has he actually beat. Hes never landed any blow in any spring festival he’s ran at. He won the betfair hurdle fair enough but really only My tent has done anything since winning that race and he did very little actual winning.

The Racing post think Millers Bank has run to a 157 on Saturday (OR 155) up from 135 in the king George, he made a mistake at the 7th. Aye Right mistake at 9th and 11th and still ran to a 157 (OR 154) up from 150 where he made no mistakes in the rowland meyrick where he was beat 16l. Fakir ran to a (OR 164) 159 despite a mistake at the 12th and being very wide. This was down 7 from winning last time when handed the race by the fall of HEC, but up 5 from his 2nd to Galopin.

Pic Dorhy ran to a 164 down 4 from his 168 for beating Clondaw Castle by 16L. Clondaw Castle had run to a 142 this day a big step up from his only 2 runs of last season where he ran to 130 twice but I’m sure he came on for the 420 days off.

A tad harsh on the tent. Probably one of the best two mile hurdlers not to win a Champion Hurdle. If only he'd learnt to settle, what could have been.

Makes him the highest rated chaser, again, for them.
They had a habit of rating him just above Energumene last year didn't they, even reassessing him a couple of times after Energumene increased his rating? They were proven right after the Clarence House Chase in fairness. Looks like they've done the same again, have him 1lb above the best of the Irish horses for appearances

Most would prefer to see a classy horse like Shishkin in the Gold Cup and not the fucking Ryanair.

The trip is not really an issue with Shishkin, as when he's travelling like he did Saturday then he's a 175+ horse whatever the trip.
He was not the same horse that ran in the tingle creek and you could tell half way through the race.

He's 9 years old and has had issues, if the Gold cup cuts up a little (i.e GDC) then he really ought to chance his arm.
          But they won't.

All the trip talk is moot. IMO

100% if Shishkin were mine he'd be running in the Gold Cup. I'm actually surprised that Joe Donnelly hasn't said so to Nicky and Nico.

Yep some decisions are difficult ones as an owner. Id need about two seconds thinking time before I decided to run him in the gc if he were mine. Neither the trainer nor owner could tell me he won’t stay and the last few months would have taught me the importance of making hay while the sun shines as the opportunity might not be there tomorrow. Seize the fucking day as the late and great mr Williams once said.

              obviously meant jockey not owner

Yeah, when you've owned a horse like Al Boum Photo, that won a gold cup after one prep run in open company at Tramore over 2m 5f, and had never completed a chase over 3 miles in his life.

And then had the option of running Shishkin in it.
All day long you'd want to have a go.

That was the first comparison that sprung to mind for me too Q. It's why I'm surprised that they were so adamant they'd go to the Ryanair. Gold Cup all day long for me. And I bet if someone pressed Joe Donnelly for what he really thinks he'd say the Gold Cup too.

I wondered when Al Boum Photo would be brought up.

Him and Shishkin are chalk and cheese, IMO. Look at their profiles. Bar the prep over 2m5f and being in the same colours they're nothing alike.

One won a Supreme, Arkle and was aimed at the Champion Chase and the other ran in an RSA the year prior, as well as the Champion Novice Chase over 3m 1/2f at the Punchestown Festival. Granted, he didn't complete either but his jockey was at fault for the run at Punchestown, and obviously he fell in the RSA when a staying on 3rd.

As for what the owners would do, do you think they are deciding at either Nicky or Willie's yard? I don't think so myself.

I think this debate, although it's not been said, is more about the fact the Ryanair even exists, more than the right race for the horse, personally.

This type of thought process winds me up so much.
Of course owners are involved and make the decisions, even if the decision is to leave it to the trainer.
                      They definitely decide.

It probably wouldn't be the first time I've annoyed you But then again, I am the future captain of 'The Real W*****s'

A lot of things seem to wind you up this season, like 'Gordy', Bollinger, and after timing

Maybe I'll compile a list in hope of rectifying these issues for you so the forum is 'nicer' for the voice of reason next season

Not for me it isn’t. I’m ok with the ryanair just not for the very top rated horses unless they have shown they don’t stay. He is right up there on ratings and nobody can say he doesn’t stay.

If I owned him I’d be asking myself what kind of performance would I want to see if he ran in the Ryanair. If my answer is win by 10 lengths pulling away up the hill my next question to myself would be if that’s what I want to see then shouldn’t I run him in the gold cup.

The only two scenarios that leave me with no regret is to get outstayed or just scramble home, neither of which would be my preferred outcome before the race.

Maybe a Poll to determine which I find the most annoying

                              • Why did Nico say straight after the race…..Ryanair.?

If it’s that obvious he should be in the gold cup, why’s he not being mentioned for it?
Surely owner, trainer and jockey would rather win a gold cup than a Ryanair.
Maybe it’s not such an obvious call for them?
