Open betting markets is what we want. Energumene winning and going 1/4 would have been boring!!
He’d never have gone 1/4 (unless he’d won by 10 lengths - unlikely on soft ground).

Defi Du Seuil only went off 2/5 with a simple penalty kick to win this race when Chacun/Altior both missed out within 24 hours of the race a few years ago.

I was being emphatic to make a point. 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 - it doesn't really matter - from betting purposes those prices are usually non event races with small fields which just isn't interesting.

Yep, I understand. But it’s also why I love the few minutes after a race has finished - social media platforms go mad with opinions/rants etc……whilst bookmakers stay calm, their traders work things out very quickly but don’t react in the way a punter would.

And I know what you were trying to elude to, I do. Points well made.

        • Greaneteen is stand out 20/1 for this with B365, or 16/1 with NRNB.

He seems to be a bit of a forgotten horse after the Tingle Creek defeat, where I think connections felt the Haldon GC might have taken a bit too much out of him.

On his best form, he'd have to be in the mix for this race now.

            • I posted on Twitter last night. Whatever came second today, I would be lumping on in the champion Chase. 10 points on Edwardstone on the day.

What’s the thinking behind that JS?

                • Ground comes up like that in March, Edwardstone wins.
Let Blue Lord win in the DRF, in what looks to be a weak race - Blue could go off fav for the QMCC!! Which would be weird given Eddie beat Blue last year

Eddie continues to be underrated. That run and performance today was huge. He knows who he needs to beat next time out, and he'll be ridden accordingly to reverse that result today

                  • Eddie's to lose now after today. Not sure the race was run to suit today and looked like he definitely needed the run. Think he'll go to Newbury to set him up for the Fez. Energumene was hugely disappointing for followers. I wouldn't be surprised if he injured himself.

Agree. He sat out the back as usual but definitely in a position to track and pick off Energumene and I don’t think realised how much rope he’d given EdG, who ran a career best with that excellent time. Next time he’ll be a tad closer, I think. I also think the Old Course in March will suit him the best.

                      • Blue Lord will definitely go CC now. He's also a big player. Arkle form now looking very hot.

Purely in my head, I was watching the Defi V lost in translation race before then at the Fez. This planted the seed for Edwardstone to come second today and win at the Fez. There is no reasonable logic behind it other than that

                          • Opinions on emergumene?

Feel like today shows he doesn't really have much of a turn of foot and they will need to revert to front running tactics for him to have any chance of regaining his crown. He never looked like having the gear change to close down the winner.

He's the only bet iv had in the race so no problem adding another it's just i was expecting today to provide answers and instead its provided loads of questions

No Newbury for Edward now, straight to festival says Kingy

Shame. I'd have preferred a run at Newbury as he's a proper hard nut but hopefully Alan knows him better than me. What a belter of a race to look forward to. All to play for. Hopefully Eddie is up to it.
