  • Clarence House

    3rd ?18,725.00
    4th ?9,327.50
    5th ?4,690.00
    6th ?2,345.00

Hey, lads... we're in wrong game with the betting silliness

How much can I get a 130 rated horse and a tailer for? Actually, make it 3
I'd be mopping up the spare cash available these small field races, whilst enjoying my air time on ITV racing

I thought the same watching a small field (4 runner) graded race at Warwick on Saturday. ?31k to winner but no idea about 4th or 5th. Surely not a bad place to run your average horse, pick up some prize money and lose a few pounds towards your next handicap plot?!

      • Might be wrong but a quick skim of Edwardstone form looks like he's won every race he's completed Right Handed.

        6 runs, 5 wins, 1 Unseat.

            • Something that is levelled at the handicapper is that horses can get raises for finishing in the vicinity of top class horses, I'm sure there was a Skelton horse who got hit wiyh a rise for finishing 10+ lengths behind classy animals but it escapes me.

However I have to think of 2lbs is really the difference between a big handicap win and not then you probably weren't well handicapped to start with and 18k got 3rd is nothing to be sniffed at.
Similar to the turners last year where El Barra and Busselton were completing to see who could finish last and still pick up good money

Handicapper has changed his rules on this since though.
To encourage more runners in these races.
He said he was going to be more lenient, can't remember exactly how they said they'd do it though.
I think at the same time though he probably decided not to drop handicap marks if they got battered either.
Seems like it's had the opposite effect

Was it Marracudja? Got raised 11lbs for coming a 7 lengths 3rd behind DDS & UDS in the Clarence House.

Surely they would drop one of the handicaps

                        Already an 8 race card

Also,if Cheltenham have to put down frost covers they won’t be able to protect the x country course so that would go to make room

Weather is fine next week, no threat of frost.
And they can’t drop a race that is currently open for entries; sponsors, connections, stables etc all need considering.
                          It’ll be a nine race card…
