  • September Yankee

    Ideas for a theme please.

A Gordon Elliott themed Yankee like last year would be my suggestion with the Down Royal entries coming out later this month (I think).

Down Royal isn't until 4th & 5th November this year, entries won't be out in September, it'll be around Halloween before we know who's due to run.

I know everyone won't have them but how about those FJ's that do put up their suggestions from Paul Ferguson's and Mark Howard's books after they are published this month?

I don't think we've used Jumpers to Follow and One Jump Ahead for a Yankee so maybe that could be a September theme going forward?

EDIT - also happy to use any other similar resources such as stable tours or anything else useful an FJ has heard from somewhere

Yeah I like that idea too, last year there's a good chance we'd have put American Mike and Vauban in at decent prices among others.

Fat Jockey's 'Four to Follow' - I like it. Like AV said, I reckon Vauban for one would have been included.

No idea why I thought it was earlier than that.

I like that idea for what it’s worth. Think a ‘talking horse’ theme is very suitable for the last real pre season yankee before the action starts and we’ve actual season form to go on

Digital version of Jumpers to Follow will be published next Monday, print version to be sent out a few days later.

According to Mark Howard's site, One Jump Ahead going to printers on Wednesday but he's waiting on a definite publishing date - I'm sure it'll be announced on his site as soon as.

Robcour very excited to send this one chasing, he has been schooling over fences since last season and this is, in their opinion, their most exciting horse going novice chasing this year.

Copied and pasted from Jarlojim's diary. A bit of a forum favourite from last year. Quite an admission there from the owners.

Love the shout of JTF + Howards book. Had Both most years they've been out and they're always exceptional.

Could chuck him in with Gerri Colombe for the NH Chase. They are surely going to be split up, would seem the logical races for the two of them, and Elliott loves a NH Chase horse (I'm not convinced that his NH Chase horse is Ash Tree Meadow...).

Got plenty of candidates from last month's that didn't make the cut while there's not much going on...

                        Chapeau de soleil - bumper
                        Lossiemouth - triumph
Both featured in OJA and will continue to shorten up in the coming weeks.

If we're going on the strength of feeling in the two books, how about Blazing Khal in the stayers at 20/1? Having scanned the early sections of JTF I'd say he's Paul Ferguson's strongest fancy. Personally, I still see him heading down the novice chase route, but Paul tips him for the stayers and suggests he'll go close.

An alternative for the stayers might be Walking on Air? Paul suspected WOA would stay over hurdles this year and Hendo has confirmed. Hendo also says he could be towards the top of the staying division.

Wouldn't be against the Gerri Colombe angle either.

Lossiemouth is featured in JTF too. So maybe the double stamp gets her in?

All nice Antepost prices, with them all having good recent words said and quite a solid case made for their targets

We can all just retire from that Yankee there.
