We decided not to go chasing with him last season, but that’s what he’ll do this season. We’d like to get him out soon if we can and I think he has a chance to be a top novice chaser this season. He seemed very suited by mid-range trips over hurdles, but we’ll work out what way to point him based on what he does on the track. If we feel he needs a mid-range trip, we might have to wait for Fairyhouse or Aintree with him which will be Cheltenham’s loss, but there we are, nothing stays the same.
Nice little dig at Cheltenham. Should have kept the race, IMO, anyway! I'm as annoyed as Willie is haha!
No mention of the Arkle this time, despite it being said more than once in previous stable tours.
“He runs in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle this weekend. I read that there are watering there. Nicky must have rang them before he ate his dinner! We wouldn’t want them putting down water for Mystical Power anyway. He’s fit and well and we’re delighted with the way the race has cut up the way it has. It’ll be a very informative race for everyone. To be honest, we had seriously thought about going novice chasing with him. We’ve schooled him a few times over fences and he’s a hell of a good jumper of them. So, if he doesn’t come up to the mark over hurdles this season, that will be an option for him next season. He might well turn out to be the best Galileo over fences!“

Dineen said that some horses would miss Cheltenham and wait for Aintree etc, as a result of the festival changes, on the first UTA this season…….…Jennings was having none of it !

I'm with Dineen here. Of course some will just go to suited races they can win. Will depend on the owner though. Some just want a runner which is just silly but it's their money.
Add to that WPM may keep aside an Aintree battalion as opposed to running his top horses at both festivals for an even better chance of retaining the British title.
For example, say Ballyburn and Impaire Et Passé live up to their hurdles ratings now novice chasing he can win the Arkle and 2m Grade 1 at Aintree. Would not surprise me in the slightest if he did this, give the festival changes.

As if picking Cheltenham ante post winners wasnt difficult enough, we now have this conundrum to consider as well !

….wondered if withdrawing all of his KG challengers was an acceptance that he won’t be winning that title this season.

I’d say absolutely no chance of that mate. He barely has a runner in Britain until the festival and still won it. Hasn’t had many King George runners of late, Allaho the first for a while if I’m remembering rightly, or maybe he’s sent one over without a favs chance. He’s sent horses all over the place this season already picking up novice hurdle pots. He’ll be 100% going for the title again.

2/5 Skelton, who is around £500k ahead of this time last year according to the race reader on the Morning Line last Sat

….yep, Richard Hoiles suggested it’d be much more difficult for Mullins this season given the amount Skelton has already amassed. He thought it was already a done deal. Saying that, I remember highlighting Mullins last season at 14-1 and he’s much shorter now.
