I was at Newbury to watch Gloria Victis. I remember looking at him in the paddock thinking he was nice but nothing special (often the case with Martin Pipe horses). My opinion soon changed …enough to put an ante post bet on for my dad for his birthday which sometimes coincided with gold cup day and did so that season. I remember the mercurial Gingembre was in the Newbury race. Nothing got near GV however. Such a shame we never got to see him as a senior horse.

This obviously makes Kala Conti more likely to be the Elliott runner in the Fairyhouse juvenile hurdle on Sunday. A race where (as per Saxon Warrior's race planning), we know that he's previously sent Fil D'Or, Zanahiyr and Couer Sublime (as well as being the race Lossiemouth won last year).

Incidentally, Kala Conti also has the best debut RPR I've noted among juveniles so far. Her race was likely hard to rate but she received 129 (by contrast Mighty Bandit received 123 in winning well at the weekend). Obviously the Mullins top tier are still to come though.

Think Newbury will be fine. Newcastle being further North obviously more of a threat.

Just to add to this, Kala Conti did receive a higher RPR on debut for Gordon but not to forget she was bringing over some winning form from France. Mighty Bandits 123 was very good for a horse seeing the racecourse for the very first time, and by the sounds of it preparation hadn't gone as planned either. I've backed both, I think both will end up in the Triumph, based off what we've seen so far and I expect Mighty Bandit to end up in the Knight Frank over Christmas now.
