Way he ran the other day he would need oxygen in the last mile!!
Nah, but he's a full brother to Mighty Potter and all the Matnie horses coped fine over two and a half. He needed to stay at Leopardstown when he won his grade one. Don't see it being an issue myself.

Yeah, I was just going on how he ran the other day.
But it was his first run and he may settle a bit better now he’s not so fresh.
Think he’s going to be pretty good at whatever distance proves to be his best chance at the festival.
My gut still says 2m but see how he does this week.
I hope he’s not an inbetween distance horse!!

I hope he’s not an inbetween and ends up at Aintree!!
Remember he was off for nearly a year so would be worried if he wasn’t fresh and raring to go, that would be my thoughts anyway.

Yeah I'm hoping it was just down to being fresh, if it isn't then it might pose problems. I'm hoping the trip to Cheltenham is a clue to their intent come spring.

I’ve backed for Arkle, so looks like we are on opposite sides!!
Hopefully one of us will be happy

            • Peaky Boy goes again at Cheltenham on Saturday in another novice handicap, this time over 3m1f. He certainly looked like he'd handle a step up in trip after his winning debut, but this will be a real test. The shire horse Hillcrest carries top weight but Peaky Boy has to give weight to the rest of the field that includes plenty of progressive types.

              • Majborough gets the 2m declaration at Fairyhouse on Saturday along with Tullyhill and Asian Master.

Indeed. It's a race Willie likes to run his good ones in. A lot of short priced Arkle runners have started here. Looks a nice race.

Obviously getting 6lbs that he won't be getting in March.

                      • Walsh could have the handbrake on like he did with some of the novice chasers last year first time up. Let him run in another beginners chase then for experience, or just go for the grade 1s without winning a beginners chase. If he wins a grade 1, happy days. If he doesn't, stay as a novice next year as a year older. That's what I'd be doing with him anyway.

Quite possibly, build him up to be a BANC horse next year with plenty experience under his belt as a second season novice. That would give him 2 or 3 years at his ‘peak’ years for open Grade 1’s.

He hasn't got so many this year, but some of the Irish trained JP novice chasers might actually be available at bigger prices after their debuts. I remember last year that all of them had very 'gentle' introductions and it was only Iroko that won on debut.

Fact To File - 2nd behind American Mike
Corbetts Cross - 3rd behind Grangeclare West
Inthepocket - 2nd behind Facile Vega
Spillanes Tower - 4th behind The Big Chap
                            Inothewayurthinkin - 2nd behind Imagine
                            Iroko - Won

With the Turners being revamped, I expect concentration of discussion will be Arkle and BANC. If targets become clear I suppose we can consider breaking this down into specific race threads. Ballyburn might get a few mentions. Latest betting; Arkle; Ballyburn 3, Firefox 8-1, JDG 10-1, IEP 10-1, Sir G 10-1, Irish Point 12-1,

I’m pinning my hopes in the fact that it’s the New Course and that will put more of a premium on stamina! But it’s a straw at best.

                              • Lawlor's of Naas early entries are out. A couple of notable inclusions/omissions.

No Kilgame, which is a slight surprise. Perhaps he's being kept to 2 miles this year. We may learn more tomorrow.

Salvator Mundi and Kel Histoire are included which implies that they are at least in consideration for the mid-trip. I appreciate that Willie block books, but he hasn't included all of his good novice hurdlers here. No Kaid D'authie, Redemption Day, Irancy, for example.
