3 for me and let’s choose the horses on merit rather than name.
It’s far too early for an Elliott Yankee this year.

I’d go for 3, hard enough trying to pick out 1 at this time of year never mind 2!

        I'd go for 3.

An Elliott yankee is probably best saved until some point in the season when we see what he does with his novices. It's hard to see a winning yankee coming from his open graded horses.

Definitely be a nice Gesture to have the June Yankee each Year , as " The Roger Hunter - Diamond Geezer Yankee " .

Another vote for 3. In part because i'm not sure there's 4 Elliott winners to be found in the current markets.

Yep I'll vote 3, and suggest moving the Elliott Yankee to October for the Down Royal weekend where he dominates. If we had done that last year we would have had Fil Dor, American Mike, Mighty Potter, and Hollow Games to consider, which would have looked pretty tasty even though none of them won.

I’d go for 3. As I said in post 23, Gordy Yankee in October probably better idea.

Option 3 it is then folks. Will save the Gordon Elliott Yankee for October and Down Royal.

With that in mind, I have one final question - Are we now looking for:
                  1) horses with a relation by name to Diamond Geezer?
                  2) A normal Yankee but named in his memory?

I’m happy with either so once again will go with the majority. Apologies for the lack of firmness from me but it’s been a difficult month for knowing what everyone wants to do.

If we are looking for something to repeat every year then horses with names related to DG are going to be hard to come by, and will probably just become more and more of a stretch.

I'd vote for option 2, and maybe suggest doing either a forum favourites, or a diamond Yankee (being the Yankee with some very high returns).

A few suggestions if we go down the diamond Yankee route. All forum talking horses at big (ish) prices.
                    An Tobar (Ballymore)
                    Minella Cocooner (Turner's)
                    Luccia (Mares Novice)

                      I'd prefer Option 2 , M.o.M. .

No reason why 2 should exclude 1 if that's what a nominator wants.

Option 2 for me as well, hard enough to pick winners without having to only use horses with vague connections to someone's name. I would imagine Rodger would be good with that.

I only knew Roger through his posts on FJ.

But I imagine he'd be tickled to think a FJ yankee was being named in his honour.

Reckon it's reasonable to assume he'd be even more thrilled if that yankee enabled us all to hit the jackpot.

So with that in mind we've got to give ourselves the best possible option of landing the big one in memory of Roger.

And that means we simply have to be able to choose any horse regardless of its name.

This is definitely the most important FJ Yankee of the year - let's give it the full monty.

….I like the thought of getting An Tobar onboard for the Ballymore.

To be honest, I think he'd be more tickled if we ran a competition in his honour and the winner got to nominate the yankee.
