  • On Shishkin, Willie said that he wondered if it was more than just the ground. He felt that the horse hated the rain as well and that he didn't look keen even in the parade ring. If he is a fair weather horse, it beings a whole extra layer to backing him ante post.

At this stage of the season, the winners of the big 4 races are understandably all the rage for next season. It's worth bearing in mind that it's rare for even two of the champions to double up as happened this year. I certainly wouldn't be looking at combination bets on this season's winners and even one of them being victorious next season is probably only about evens based on stats.

Very good point Archie re winners of the Championship races backing up.

On a similar note it was also very rare for 4 of the 5 long time favs for the races to win too. Only Shishkin not coming in.

        • With the NH Chase next year in mind, Banbridge is an interesting entry in the 3m novices hurdle at Aintree.

I really liked Walking On Air for the Turners but that Sefton entry has probably scuppered that plan.

….suggestion elsewhere on here he’s likely heading to Mersey Nov Hurdle on Saturday over 2m 4f.

It still leaves me with a dilemma. I really don’t want to be getting stuck into things right now, but if he wins well then he’ll likely be a silly price afterwards. I prefer to use this time compiling my next season shortlist rather than backing them already

Most on here seem very bullish he goes Arkle, I personally wouldn't rule out Turners.

                        • Hendo has given strongest hint that Constitution Hill stays hurdling next year. "Michael is dying to have a crack at Honeysuckle. I just feel that there's plenty of time for that to happen."

Given that next year is Honey's last, the "plenty of time" has a time limit of 12 months.

Does anywhere have punchestown champion hurdle priced up?

Seems owner wants a go now and Henderson is not.

I know they can change their minds etc but wouldn’t surprise me if he takes on Dysart again and possibly Sir G if WPM runs then both over 2m in the champion novice.

I think deep down Henderson is scarred from the Sprinter Sacre campaign when he took in Punchestown so doubt we'll ever see his best horses heading over there post Cheltenham...

Yeah I had an Arkle bet up but couldn't quite convince myself.

That said if CH is staying hurdling that would surely make him Nicky's best 2 miler?
