  • FJ Day Four (Friday) Yankee - Captain: Odin

The captain of the Day Four Fat Jockey Yankee is: Odin

You are in complete control of the yankee. Your decision is final. If you want to do win only, each way, get people to vote, pick it all youself, pick ones with nice colours - it's all fine. (As long as they're all running on the Friday )

    YOU decide. We follow.

Final selection to be put up on Monday 14th March, by 12:00 please.

    Oooh Friday....

Alright guys, it's likely this will be ew rather than win, but no guarantee on that until selections are known.

So three things I'm looking for...

The best not odds on banker Anyone who has a specific strong knowledge of the foxhunters for a bet in that
Any 10/1+ (and ideally 16/1+) shots that we think have really strong PLACE chances.

Obviously we all want winners, but if we can get three strong double figure odds horses and perm them up with a short priced banker, hopefully that could give us a good place return and maybe a win double (or more)

    Over to you now!

….I’ll throw Bardenstown Lad or Shantreusse (Bartlett) & First Street (County) into the mix.

        It's still on you Odin

But I'll chuck up Eclair Du Beaufeu as an each way shot. Had a very similar prep to last season where he was 4th in this off 3 pounds higher, solid Cheltenham form with a second in the Grand Annual in 2020. Some 25s currently lying about, half expecting him to shorten a bit before the day though. Plus he was one of two of my picks in this exact Yankee last season who wasn't totally useless so

Bartlett seems a logical one to target for an each way Yankee. Probably want to see what's in it first though...

Freedom To Dream would be a great one in the Martin Pipe should he get in too. Hopefully overlooked, definitely a live outsiders chance and it would be some scene having all of Fat Jockey cheering one home for Bayoffreedom

Has anyone heard if Colonel Mustard is going to the County? Finished 3rd in the DRF race Sir Gerhard won and well clear of the rest of the field.

Only entry is Coral Cup & connections indicated they were going for the 2m5 G1 novice at Aintree….but that was before he was left on 140 in the UK….either way not a Fri horse

Where are you seeing the latest entries? He's still showing as in supreme, Ballymore, coral and county on racing post, and in the betting for all of them.

Apologies - I’d got him crossed off for the county on my list but my oversight. In which case always possible but I do know they were looking at going up in trip next run but who knows!

Il Etait Temps @14s (Triumph) looks to have strong each way claims after running a blinder in what looks the strongest trial (Spring Juvenile). Vauban will be hard to beat and he looks the most talented prospect in the race but he's hardly been foot perfect and did hang right at Leopardstown. A slog on soft ground on the new course are potential negatives for the FAV and I'd be happy to have Il Etait Temps onside ew at the price with improvement likely to come.

                      Hunters Chase:

Billaway has failed to win twice here and his short price helps make the market.

Winged Leader won well LTO but has deadheated with Mighty Stowaway this season, who is a much better price and not one I'd be interested in this. Probably flattered by his win over Billaway last time.

Bob & Co is a doubtful stayer for me.

Enough doubts about these to pick one outside the top 3 in the market.

                      Trends for the race:

Last 7 winners 10 or 11. 16/21 this century over 9 years of age.
Ex handicappers rated over 140 have done poorly
5 of the 6 10 year olds to win were course winners.
                      10/12 rated 134+ by BHA
6 of last 12 winners finished top 5 last season in the race
No first time winner since 2005 has won over this trip before
                      12 of last 14 top 3 LTO
28/33 started out in hunter chases/PTP

From the trends, the following would be my pick:

                      Dubai Quest (14/1):
                      9 years of age.
Only raced in PTPs and Hunter Chases.
                      Rated 137 by the BHA.
                      Not raced over 3m2 before.

His form is good in the context of this race.

Best Le Breuil pretty easily last time at Wetherby over 3m, with Law of Gold and Igor being pulled up. Got a 139 RPR for the win. Jumping in the first part of the race wasn't great but improved once they started racing.

Only other race this season was a P2P win over Tango De Juilley and Red Indian, who are decent sorts.

Red Indian after that race was giving Latenightpass (4th in this last year and 2nd at Aintree) a good race when Latenightpass fell at the last. Latenightpass won again today.

It would be interesting to know Gina Andrews thoughts on both Dubai Quest and Latenightpass as she rides both. Latenightpass would be of interest but ran today and he is supposed to be aimed at Aintree and miss the festival.

Trainer also has Fumet D'Oudaries (Gina Andrews also rides) so would be interesting if both turn up and which one Gina will ride. Fumet D'Oudaries has form ties with Vaucelet but are on the young side based on past trends.

14s with Bet365 and William Hill. Decent each way price for me if you want one in the Hunters.

Thanks for the suggestions so far gents..

Kevloaf any chance of delaying the deadline on this until 2000 on Monday in case I can't look at Wednesday decs at work? Ballymore/Bartlett and Coral/county/pipe markets could take a massive shake up and it almost feels like a lot of the value has gone with nrnb anyway?

Obviously if people suggest horses who's prices are being held by others thinking they'll go elsewhere I'm happy to gamble before decs. Happy to hear all thoughts on this or be told no by the boss!

Porticello and Knight Salute both available at 10's/11's/12's , for the Triumph , haven't done anything wrong in my Opinion , Odin.
either one could spoil the Ireland 1,2,3 . ?? ..

I know someone connected to Senor Lombardy in the Foxhunters. Will be totally under the radar and probably a massive price but the connections know their stuff and won’t just be going for a day out if he runs.

The horse has ran The Galloping Bear to within a few lengths which has obviously gone on to good things this year. Will try to find out their intentions/hopes.

I think historically we go for those times so everyone gets chance to get on... as some people travel down Monday night etc....

I don't have a problem myself with it being pushed back to 20:00 .... but if anyone does, speak up
