  • FJ Day One (Tuesday) Yankee - Captain: Benjy23

The captain of the Day One Fat Jockey Yankee is: Benjy23

You are in complete control of the yankee. Your decision is final. If you want to do win only, each way, get people to vote, pick it all youself, pick ones with nice colours - it's all fine. (As long as they're all running on the Tuesday )

    YOU decide. We follow.

Final selection to be put up on Monday 14th March, by 12:00 please.

      Sounds good.

I'd encourage a shortlist so we've got horses to discuss for it along the way.

The more discussion, the more fun.

I actually would like Jonbon in. Plugs a gap....

When are the bookings going to start their Day 1 offers too..... Jonbon 5+ places at his likely odds would be smashing.

….I’ve nominated Queens Brook (MH) for the overall Yankee, so I’ll have to suggest her for Day One. If we are looking for double figure prices, I also like Mighty Potter for the Supreme, if he’s on the leaders tails going to the last I think he’ll win.

Pat's Fancy @ 12/1 NHC (case just made in that thread) would be my day one selection if you're going for horses at prices. Quite hard to find anything with win genuine win chances at double figure prices now but I think he's one of them

Fair play. I'll chuck some thoughts up as I go and when I get chance.

Think plugging gaps with one or two is probably a fair shout tbh. Don't really want to select four runners most of us already have in someway, including myself! Might try to combine couple of obvious ones at single figures with a couple of less obvious (imo) or gaps in my 'books' at least. I use books in a very lose term compared to some of you, mine are often books of two!

So to start with the less obvious that might actually get some thoughts/hate

NH Chase is a race I'm thinking of. Most have RWF and I'd like to get some cover on him at bigger prices than Statler. RWF's got the second season novice profile that I like and another two who standout on that front are Braeside and Ontheropes (actually third season due to one run). Both likely to get good jockey bookings as well?

Ontheropes I fear may have slightly fallen out of love with the game as an early disclaimer here. But he's good on his day, won the Munster national quite comfortable off 141. RPR that day only 5lb behind RWF's best ever effort. Was struggling early in the Thyestes before plugging on quite well to be fair. He's a proper stayer at least but got a jumping error in him. Assume Mullins (2nd string) and CPS would get a decent jockey booking. Any ideas? I've actually got him covered in some form mind.

Braeside probably needs more improvement even on his best efforts but won the Cork National off 133. And then ran a staying on place giving weight to some Cheltenham handicap fancied rivals and getting a couple of lb from the GN fav next time. He's another that is a proven stayer with big field experience. He's got a fair bit to find on ratings but still expect Codd to get the ride to be honest, assuming Gigginstown only run one of the Elliot lot, and that'll count for a good deal here.

I've got them both as pretty good trends fits. But that's on my laptop, might go through some of them later.

Any thoughts on either of them

He's the only other one I considered in that race from the double figure prices. Will come back to that later. Took me an age to write that above with two kids running round

…a few shouts for Vanillier on preview nights, presume he’s headed NHC and might fit the ‘plugging a gap’ criteria.

That's a very interesting approach actually, not sure anyone has done that before.
Loosely discussed that with Q in his diary earlier this morning too.

For anyone yet to cover Stattler (who looks to have obvious claims) I suspect he may drift to 2nd FAV for the NH Chase on the back of support for RWF (especially if Jamie Codd gets the leg up). Farouk d'Alene (who is not certain to line up) gave Stattler a race at Naas and he looks about twice the price he should be @8/1 NRNB.

                      Yep, totally agree Benjy23
The Middle_Of_March yankees will contain most of the fancied horses that have been discussed over the months so I'd happily support a yankee of others...

At final decs and 7 places, vintage clouds would have to be a decent shout in the Ultima at 20/1+. May not win but I struggle to accept he will be out of the first 7 if he gets around

I think Gordon will have a terrific week, but it won't be from Day 1.

I think the On the Ropes or Pat's fancy for the n.h.chs. is a good shout , at a double figure price .
O.T.R has been a bit disappointing i suppose , but maybe the better spring ground will spark a revival. ., .
