I wonder whether we will se Galahad quest entered up for either ascot or Wincanton next Saturday, there's a 3 m hcap chase at each meeting he could run in, I'd rather him in one of these than the coral chase at kempton on the 26th

I stay in Bristol every year for Cheltenham week. It’s a really easy journey by train.

Any views on why GQ is still availble at 20s for the Kempton gig.
Surely connections would be having a nible if this were his target,

It's a really hot race looking at the entries. 20's about right I'd say.

I live in Bristol but stay in Cheltenham all week. The train journey home is a f*****g nightmare ............plus the abuse from the missus

Lobos, thanks for your response, more questions of why make the entry into a hotter heat. scratching head emoji

Would you allow place money to cloud the thinking as opposed to what is perceived as a easier win target, could fall between two stalls.
This punter would make a piss poor racing advisor,

From an owner's perspective I'd say prize money rules. Huge bills to pay !!!

Talk re decisions being guided by place money pre Cheltenham are way off the mark IMO (especially in this specific case). Nick Williams will be targeting the Ultima and his primary objectives are to qualify and not blow his mark. A competitive deep race vs 150's horses is the perfect place to throw in GC because it gives the horse experience over 3m, and, he can pick up a few lbs finishing midfield which will guarantee him a run in the Ultima, without being hiked up massively and jeopardising his chances in March. Tick tick. The decision to run Coo Star Sivola in a weaker race over 3m pre-Cheltenham was probably a 'mistake' and nearly backfired after he was raised 7lbs. We know now that didn't matter, but my guess is Nick will be mindful that he can run tactically vs really good horses and pick up only a small rise that will get GC in and leave him well handicapped. Thats the dream.

This would make sense if the Ultima was the Ultima in terms of prize money, but it's not.

Spot on. The Kempton race is worth far more in prize money. If he goes for it then he'll be trying to win it.

Yeah, if Charlie's dream happens then it's not by design. IMO
Could happen like that, in terms of him not winning but getting a couple of pounds, but it ain't some master plan, and definitely not genius like.

There is nothing genius or unusual or surprising about a trainer running a horse in a deeper handicap with a view to concealing ability for a less competitive future handicap. The latter might be worth less to the winner, but if they think they have more chance of winning that race then it makes sense, and most owners (especially ones who have sent their horse to Cheltenham five times) want a festival winner over a Kempton winner. All rather obvious, don't see why it should be seen as some sort of master plan, just makes sense.

He'll be trying to win though, he won't be concealing anything.
He was trying last time out at Cheltenham, and he will be at Kempton if they run him.
It remains to be seen how deep the race will be at Kempton, and I imagine it'll be no less deep in the Ultima, in differing ways.
A maximum field would be a surprise.
These UK trainers aren't shy of ignoring decent prizes.
