Superb ride slowing down the pace knowing Sir Gerhard's big weapon was his turn of foot and the horse is tactically versatile, luckily Kilcruit didn’t have a strong pace race otherwise I feel he may have done better of the two.

The jockey on the second failed to to understand the moderate fractions being set by Rachel, Townend got caught flat footed and the whole world could see that the 2l lead into the turn would suddenly open when she kicked off the turn, Townend had two rivals around him and when the kick came off the slow pace it was game over.
I like Townend and he comes across as a really likeable bloke but he is no RW, BG, or DR and the kicking that Ruby gave him at last year's festival was truly deserved.
I never had a bet in the Boodles but was amazed at the ride he gave Saint Sam, I had never witnessed anything in the horses previous runs this year indicating that he needed to be held so far back but the horse had to visit every postcode in Cheltenham to make his run and could be considered unlucky, jockey error once more.
I do wonder if Davey Mullins was irked in being second jockey to someone that is not as good as Mullins first jockey should be, we have all experienced this dilemma in the workplace when you have to leave to get the reward and recognition you deserve.
