Pipe had one years ago that won when very short.
I keep thinking Pizarro was also very short but I was a very bitter man having been on the runner up who was interfered with and the stewards failed to reverse places, that might be getting in the way of rational thinking...

To pick up like that on that ground when asked is very imprrssive. Think 2nd is a decent horse as well. All good for Sir G going forward.

That ground looked like rutted cloying glue on the bends, and I thought it may sap the fav’s energy.

The fact that it didn’t, and he could lengthen away like that, in that ground, was about as impressive as it gets, in heavy ground racing.

I’d agree on the ground, however I wouldn’t back him at 5/2 with someone else’s money... I think we’d struggle to find something that’s worse value than that atm

Not that I’m suggesting anyone here will be going anywhere near the 5/2!!

Yep, this and the Triumph are two races that if you are adding this side of Xmas at short odds you are a braver punter than me.

Gordon will know how good Sir G is in relation to Hollow Games but I wouldn't be ruling out the Mullins contingent yet. Brooklynn Girl looked good to me and would receive an allowance and he similarly has Brandy Love. Also Kilcruit who is potentially being saved for this rather than going over hurdles. I agree that Sir G has been impressive but I have him on side at 22-1 TWAR and wouldn't currently be going in again at his price now.

When reviewing my bets/strategy for the 2020 festival, I decided to "hold back" a bit on the Champ Bumper and Triumph antepost bets due to the nature of the races (full of young, unexposed horses).

After reading various posts on here, as well as other bits during first lockdown (remember that?!) I resisted the urge to get involved.

Obviously kicking myself a bit now but he does look great.

Does make me go back to the discussion about whether a year racing in bumpers is a waste for these highly regarded types...

It would be for a horse like this IMO.
You're possibly wasting a pop at having a champion hurdler.
Although Gordon may have a plan, and may try him over a hurdle later in the season.

Then Champion Hurdle next season like some thought he should have done with Envoi Allen.

In the last 28 years 8 novices have run in the CH. 3 won and three others came 3,4,4. None were aged 5.

So it can be done but should they be in such a hurry. Sir Gerhard doesn’t strike as a Gold Cup horse somehow.

Appreciate It romped home at the DRF, but couldn’t replicate it at Cheltenham.

Envoi Allen won tidily at the DRF, and battled out a win at Cheltenham

Im not convinced Sir Gerhard needs to go to the DRF.
Possibly the ground at that time of the year, will dictate the plan, and if there is heavy ground in Ireland at that time, it could mean a few Cheltenham fancies skip that meeting.
