So we will know pretty soon what he is really made of

If he swats Letsbe aside easily, then he would go 2/1 fav.

Its interesting that BF/PP have cut him to 4s today.

Any price reduction on Lestbe would be equally interesting, though the trainer has said he doesn't plan on going to Cheltenham this year. If he beat SG a week on Sunday that plan could change.

That Listed race is a big one for anyone with fancy prices on SG.
He will also get 3 lbs from Letsbe as well.

I know we get the same rants about every market in every year but this one seems especially ridiculous to me given it’s probably one of the most volatile markets of the festival with next to nothing known about potential contestants at this stage.
You are correct but you are not going get much agreement on here because so many throw darts at big prices with the comfort blanket of cash out. I don't think I have ever read the sentence 'I have backed that one but it is now a ridiculous price'.

I often think it would be interesting one year if Mullins/Elliott don't win the bumper, or any of the three novice hurdles. I suspect it would be something akin to a wake on here.

I get the impression KB would be unhappy if he won the lottery, complaining that it wasn't a double rollover

          • if you think a favourite is a ridiculously short price it should be a good opportunity to get value from others in the market?

if you can't see that value the favourite is probably the right price

              FatherJohn,

              you are absolutely 100% correct.

I don’t think it makes sense for anyone to complain about the price of the antepost favourite of a Festival race IF they don’t like the horse, or think it won’t win.

Your message is right, if you think the favourite is a bad one at a bad price, then it should be easy to find one (or more) alternatives at bigger prices to back, no need to be sad.

I think some people would complain about short-priced favourites because they actually do think it will win, and can’t find a horse to beat it, but don’t want to back the fav at a short price..

There are 28 races though, so no need to back a shortie or an alternative if you can’t find one, just move on to the other races.

              • I’ve started looking at each way options in the Arkle / marsh just because I’ve got shishkin / Envoi both covered in various bets, and want to ensure I have some form of cover. It’s rare I’ll do e/w antepost bets but in this scenario it seems most sensible imho

Are you so miserable cos you've not latched on to the dominance of the big Irish stables in the bumpers and novice hurdle departments.
                      Don't take a genius does it ?

I have a friend who still insists on ignoring the obvious class difference and still backs the smaller yards in these races every year. I love him very much but he's often morose and moaning about things. And he's a ground worrier.

I mentioned to you that you seemed to favour the smaller operations for some reason, cos you sounded like my mate (also very maudlin). But you denied it.
Then you make a comment like that, and it's carbon copy of what my mate comes out with.

Are you my mate Gary ? (he looks like a gypsy, from rotherham)

                        That made me laugh.
I wonder, do Rotherham gypsies look different to say Doncaster, Leeds and Sheffield gypsies ?
