We’ll run a couple in the Grade 2 bumper. Sir Gerhard is a possibility but I’m not sure if we’re going to go straight to Cheltenham or run him next week beforehand. We’ll wait until next week and see what happens.
That's what Gordon said in the Irish Field on Friday. Might have an infection and that's why he might not run at DRF. Don't see why they wouldn't run him if he was fit and healthy.

...in his latest Monday Sporting Life column, Mark Howard suggests backing Brandy Love for this @ 16-1 ahead of her DRF run this weekend. Interesting to see how long 16-1 lasts after him highlighting it;

The counter argument to that though is this has a horse with a massive future so why take the risk?
Either way as long as the horse is sound, well and makes it on the boat to Cheltenham all will be good.

Really struggling to see how many and who Willie is going to send here. This weekend should tell a lot but he'll have so many darts in this race surely. He's got a good few mares as well so I can see some going to Aintree (although just looked at previous 2 running's and no runners in either bumper) or Punchestown for the mares bumpers but surely he will send some here as well.
Mullins runners in the Champion Bumper the last few years:
2020 - 3 (Won - Didn't go DRF although Appreciate it did go)
2019 - 1
2018 - 5 (Won - went DRF and won Mares)
2017 - 2
2016 - 7
2015 - 6
2014 - 3
2013 - 3 (Won)
2012 - 2 (Won)
2011 - 2
2010 - 3
The last two years he has only had one runner in both of the bumpers at the DRF (Only Appreciate It won). Year before (2018) he won both races with Blackbow and Relegate (went on to win at Cheltenham) and only one other runner in Colreevy in the mares bumper.
This shows that previously he's not been one to chuck loads of his horses against each other at the DRF, but when it comes to Cheltenham he's throwing darts left right and centre, and hasn't really gone all out at Aintree.
One he's got towards the top of the market include:
Kilcruit
Ramillies
Brandy Love
Take Tea
Whatdeawant
Brooklynn Glory
Purple Mountain
Belle Metal
Who do people think will show up hear?
Tbf this can be said about Gordon as well. He's got 4 entered at the DRF and got plenty of other's like Three Stripe Life. They could both take up half the field at this rate

Personally I'm hoping that WM considers one of his Mares to be good enough, in partucular either Brooklyn Glory or Brandy Love. They would receive a 7lb allowance in the Bumper which could be telling, if one of them is top class.
Of the two, Brandy Love seems to have a higher profile but I thought Brooklynn Glory looked equally as impressive on her most recent run, however there was a comment immediately after her win that she might be suitable for Aintree.
For info, the links below refer to Brandy Love and Brooklynn Glory after their last wins.

I don’t think we’re going to be seeing him running 5 or 6 horses this year like he has in the past, the trend has been him having less runners recently anyway, plus there are perhaps added complications with transport etc due to covid & brexit this year.
He does have quite a nice hand to play though this year, If I were to guess I’d say he would probably be entering his 2 best geldings and his best mare between take tea, brandy love & brooklynn glory.
if I had to guess, I’d say the likely line-up would be Ramillies, Kilcruit & Brandy Love. If JP wants take tea to go then I’m sure he’ll get his way too however.
There’s been a fair few runners in the past to look at trends from, and FWIW I have as positives for Mullins horses in the champion bumper, based on data going back to 2010:
former point to pointers (3 wins, 5 places, 3 top 5 finishes from a total 22 runners)
Debut in bumpers in Dec or jan (4 wins, 5 places, 3 top 5 finishes from a total 21 runners)
Bumper debut RPR of 126+ (mares 119+) (2 wins, 3 places, 1 top 5 finish from 10 total runners)
RPR of 131+ (124+ for mares) on their final start prior (3 wins, 3 places & 2 top 5 finishes from 14 total runners)
Also on the day whatever the top professional (I.e. Patrick, in the past ruby etc) rides has a lot better record than whatever Patrick is on despite all but twice Patrick being on the first string in terms of SP. Horses ridden by the stables top pro are 2 wins, 4 places & 1 additional top 5 finish from 10 races, whilst Patrick is 1 win 1 place from 10. Patrick has only ever finished infront of the top pro once in in 10 races since 2010, ironically on champagne fever who was actually less fancied than Ruby’s mount pique sous that day.
Stats that represent fair negatives I have those that made their bumper debut November or earlier, and those who had their final run before the festival December or earlier.
May help some to pick through the current horses quoted in the market to see what they like or not. I have the data in spreadsheet form if anybody would like it they’re more than welcome to Pm me. However this is the first year I’ve took the antepost side really seriously and it is a bit more geared toward sorting through them on the day when you’ve all the info at hand.
edit: I should have probably added, the total figs since 2010 are 4 wins, 8 places & a further 4 in the top 5 from 37 total runners.Last edited by ToniC; 1 February 2021, 01:46 PM.

Used a free bet on Gordons horse to follow this season, Hollow Games @ 20/1.
Form starting to shape up nicely. Beat Eurotiep 2L giving away 4lbs over Christmas and Eurotiep just pissed up by 19L in a maiden hurdle.
I am hoping for a big run at the DRF and a price collapse.
