      Don't take a genius does it ?

I have a friend who still insists on ignoring the obvious class difference and still backs the smaller yards in these races every year. I love him very much but he's often morose and moaning about things. And he's a ground worrier.

I mentioned to you that you seemed to favour the smaller operations for some reason, cos you sounded like my mate (also very maudlin). But you denied it.
Then you make a comment like that, and it's carbon copy of what my mate comes out with.

Are you my mate Gary ? (he looks like a gypsy, from rotherham)
I don't know how your mate tolerates you. He sounds like a decent chap.

Yes, there is part of me that likes to see the small stables win, if only occasionally. It is one of the reasons why National Hunt is better than the Flat. They could never win a Derby, but they could win a Gold Cup, or at least they used to be able to do that. These days with the spending giants it not so easy. I don't think that direction is good for the game.

As regards opposing the obvious perhaps I am getting it wrong more than I would like but is it really genius just relying on numbers and the cash out system? Sometimes I think these horses may as well not even have names. If Sir Gerhard wins this year's bumper what are the majority going to do? Probably just find out the names of Cheveley Park purchases and back them blind? I can't see the enjoyment in doing that. If that equates to miserable, then so be it.

Just as an aside I did see The Bangles in concert.

KB. I've noticed you mention those that use cashout a few times, in less than positive terms. As a punter, why shouldn't people take advantage of any edge they can? Do you prefer the bookies to win?

I think I get on his nerves.
          bangles in concert ?

I can imagine you holding up a lighter and singing along to eternal flame.

The very idea, thankfully something I have never contemplated. Don't think I have ever had a lighter and it was a very small, indoor venue. The Bangles were a decent pop band and Eternal Flame, whilst a big success, was the beginning of the end. Basically, it was naff.

Just to balance things, I have also seen Leonard Cohen in concert.

              you are absolutely 100% correct.

I don’t think it makes sense for anyone to complain about the price of the antepost favourite of a Festival race IF they don’t like the horse, or think it won’t win.

Your message is right, if you think the favourite is a bad one at a bad price, then it should be easy to find one (or more) alternatives at bigger prices to back, no need to be sad.

I think some people would complain about short-priced favourites because they actually do think it will win, and can’t find a horse to beat it, but don’t want to back the fav at a short price..

There are 28 races though, so no need to back a shortie or an alternative if you can’t find one, just move on to the other races.
Completely agree, just move on, you don't need to win every race. Plot your money accordingly.

Point taken. I was just trying to explain the answer I had given.

Obviously, I prefer bookmakers to lose, some more than others. In my opinion from a punter perspective Bet 365 are well ahead of the rest, but even they are now running a much tighter ship. I think a more defensive attitude is in part a result of their historically more generous cash outs.

Of course it is individual choice whether to play the cash out game. It isn't against any rules. That said I wonder how long it will survive, and I suspect if it does go, it won't be that easy for some people to adjust.

Every selection I make is purely on the basis that I think the horse has a chance of winning a particular race, irrespective of who trains it, or who is offering best price. Sometimes Bet 365 just happen to be top price, although that is happening less often and I suspect that is a result a significant number of punters availing themselves of cash out on a regular basis.

Clearly you need a deal of luck, but the ideal scenario for me is just to put up one horse per race. I find it very difficult to knowingly put up a load of losing bets in the hope that one might hit the bullseye.

                • Was looking over the form of Brooklyn Glory as thinking about getting her in the book. Then realised she has only raced against her own sex - would this worry you for a champion bumper?

That’s true - was relegate the same?

Would they get the usual 7lbs in the bumper?

Yeah Relegate the same for some reason Fayonagh was my go to answer then. Yeah still get the allowance, think somebody did some research on this as few looked for a mare to get on side last year.

                        • Queens Brook managed to place even though she has looked fairly ordinary so for over hurdles (early days) having won a mares only bumper....

Only issue for with BG is the risk that she won't show at all..

Well she has plenty of options, including a bumper in the next few week's possibly against Sir Gerhard. That could change things before 2021 even!

Also races like Aintree G2 mares bumper etc.
