They may well have been using the Hennessy as the starting point for the 'ratings crash' that he needs but I'm confused why they started the horse out over hurdles at the Charlie Hall meeting, why not run the horse in the inadequate Charlie Hall itself ?

his jumping isn’t great at times so maybe an early season pipe opener over hurdles is just what was required. His 148 hurdle mark leaves no room for anything at all, and so it’s a nice start to a quiet season perhaps....plus imagine if he ran ok in the Charlie Hall - then what becomes of his season target?

If he'd ran OK in the Charlie Hall it would have proved he is a graded horse, not a handicapper...

Just spoken to somebody who works at the yard. The National is the main aim this season. Will be going over hurdles NTO, and then probably a couple of goes over jumps - I imagine to get the mark in working order. Maybe I’ve talked myself out of backing it, but it appears to be the obvious race at the festival for him, and he will be shorter than that on the day

Discorama 33-1 with Unibet - pretty decent for a horse who went off 11-2 joint favourite in March and was beaten two-and-a-half lengths.

Setting myself up here for a lashing but interested in hearing anyone’s thoughts
i know Willie’s record with handicap chasers at the festival before I ask
does anyone have an opinion or an idea where Ontheropes might be targeted ?
seems to be an Antepost gamble on him for the paddy power at leopardstown
if he was to win or be placed there could he come here ?
the main reason I ask is the owners are mad keen to have as many Cheltenham winners as possible and he is not good enough for the Marsh or Rsa

I would of thought they would of ran him over a qualifying distance for the 4 miler on his last race if they were
would need to place in the paddy power then in another race between that and Cheltenham
doesn’t leave any margin for error/fall

I do see one run from last year when he was fourth to smoking gun
i thought he needed to finish in top three
his other runs don’t seem to qualify him because they are too short in distance unless I have missed something
the paddypower could do it though
