  • Started looking back at the runners and winners over the years and found Nick Williams horses run well in this race.
    I went back 12 years....

    2018 Coo star divola 1st
    2013 Tullamore Dew 3rd
    2012 Tullamore Dew Unplaced
    2011 Reve de Silvola 3rd
    2009 Maljimar 2nd

Other years no entries. So am thinking when he as a runner in the race it really runs well with 3 in the frame and one winner. One unplaced.

This year One for the team 14/1 NRNB 5 places. Some nice form and jumps really well and could be very well handicapped. (2nd to Next Generation off 140). Will relish the distance. Prefers spring ground, which hopefully it will be come mid March.

Can see Ricci going towards the NH Chase
Entered GC too. Maybe Ricci will have another shot at it with him ? He'll have to win well Saturday though.

You have missed Coo Star Sivola in 2019 - PU as co-fav

Good angle though, and I'm on Coo Star Sivola again but the one you mention might be the one!

            • Aye Right would be the one for me right now at the prices. 5th in last year's RSA admittedly was well beaten in the end however that was only his 3rd run over fences the other 2 being a UR and then winning a 2 runner race so was a very inexperienced novice chaser. This season he's ran 2 rock solid efforts in handicaps finishing 3rd and 2nd. With him having such little chasing experience I think there's enough improvement in him to be winning this.

Agree - Aye Right is fully on my shortlist for this. Form standing up very well for a race like this.
Declared for a Jumpers Bumper tomorrow at Newcastle 2:55pm so mark should remain unchanged as unlikely to run again before March?

                • Also just as a few people have mentioned Kildisart - I’m sure I read somewhere that he had picked up a small injury after his last race but can’t remember where I had seen it. Has anyone else heard/seen similar?

I would strongly suggest taking NRNB if backing Kildisart, given the rumours.

The additional price isn't worth the risk.

Thought as much but couldn’t remember where I had seen the news. Not one on my shortlist but see he is still priced up everywhere so obviously not we’ll known news.

                          • I’ve decided to get Cap Du Nord onside at 33/1 for this. He’s drastically shortened for next weeks Sky Bet chase after Royale Pagilles romp today & if he runs well there I think this could be his target & he won’t be 33s.

Lots have gone in again since RP winning again earlier as 6s have become 3s< for next weekends race, if he wins next week coupled with further collateral he could end up with a decent 10lbs+ would be the concern.

                              (edit not a novice )

                              • I read Christian Williams say they're going to the Skybet Chase next Sat with a plan on winning and then going for the grand national... Not that it completely rules him out for Ultima but wasn't mentioned. The horse who might run next Sat against Cap Du Nord (Who I think will win) who has the potential to place only go a up a few lb at most and then go on to the Ultima is Canelo and I like him for this. But surely The Conditional is a shoe in to run in this and if he does he will be right there again. Previous runners in the Ultima from the year before have a pretty good record in this and he would be the one to beat if he were to turn up! So I would take Canelo and The Conditional against the field atm.
