  • It could be like what Ruby said about what Willie does, that he likes to enter horses in every race incase there is trouble with travelling across or wild weather etc. Just multiple variables which could affect thing's and is therefore just giving them other options incase something happens.

Like with travelling over they send them over in stages with the horse's racing earlier in the week travelling over before the others and if their is rough weather and the ferry can't go across they still have an option later in the week if they can get across then (and vice versa)

    • Spectre's bullishness is making me think that gordy thinks he could win this off top weight.

But Quilixios or not, the irish certainly seem to have this race in the bag and Gordon has a strong hand in it anyway.
Like you say surely he goes Triumph. Surely. Surely
Perhaps a nice unlikely to go Day 1 EW double could be Bob O/Quilixios 83.5/1 NRNB skybet

But in this instance the boodles is 1st? Triumph on the Friday. I know what you are saying but I don't think that is what is happening in this scenario. But I think Gordy has a tactic and strategy behind it, what that is, we will never know!

        • Think it's simply they wouldn't want to spoil Quixilos on Good ground. By running on the Tuesday he'll be guaranteed the best ground of the week if the dry forecast is correct. They'll wait until a few days before.

          • Did anyone notice that on this week's Upping the Ante, they were harping on about how good value Zanahiyr is for the Triumph? They mentioned Adagio and others as not being anywhere near his level, but made no mention of Quixilios who, on form, should run him close. Do they know something we don't in respect of Quixilios being aimed elsewhere i.e. here? Am I giving them too much credit?

You appear to be obsessing over the ground Lobos, they will irrigate if ground threatens to become too quick/dangerous, ground day one will have juice in it but if the week is dry they will continue to water New Course right through to Thursday....

He has form ties with Duffle Coat.

Not priced up, that I could see either. Will be watching with interest today.
This was before his last run, and guess who doesn't have a penny on him

Saving grace is he might get clobbered.
and goes to aintree anyway, for the graded race

Just nabbed him 18s NRNB with Ladbrokes boosted, I had a note in my tracker to back him after his last run and like you, didn't act fast enough

Very true, could have backed NRNB though

Just completely forgot about him TBH even though he's in my tracker, not sure how that's happened!

                      • The bet after that race at Warwick this afternoon is Balko Saint (129), available at 22/1 Skybet nrnb.

Worth taking before the bookies catch up.

Just looked back at the Cabot Cliffs/Duffle Coat form after todays race. At Cheltenham G2 in November Duffle Coat beat Adagio with Cabot Hills in 4th beaten 15l. In 3rd that day was Balko Saint 5 1/2l ahead of Cabot. BS hasn't run since presumably to miss Winter ground. Has an OR of 129 and entries next week on Monday and Wednesday, the day before and day after the marks are announced. Backed him ew @ 22/1 NRNB with Sky

Unfortunately it is never enough though if it's warm and breezy. Any watering overnight is sucked out of the ground so quickly. Hopefully it'll be wet leading up to the Fez so that the ground is proper G/S not artificial.

According to archie the bigger issue might be the best form the East mark 3...

I know there are rumours that Quilixios may run here, but he won't, will he ?

Is it to force the handicapper to structure the race around them. Potentially providing better perspective for the allocation of marks for the horses that are not graded level yet ?

Is it to get a tiny bit of trade for his betfair buddies ?

Is it to try and hold the prices for other horses in the race ( a distraction technique) ?

Is it in case of a bizarre set of circumstances that mean the triumph doesn't happen ?

                                I think it's 1 myself.
I was thinking something similar, with the Boodles now three days before the Triumph, not two days, I thought Gordon may declare Quilixios or Zanahiyr depending on their respective weights, get top-weight, then withdraw him, and declare for the Triumph on the Wednesday morning.

Keep the weights compressed for the Boodles, possibly pushing some out of the handicap.
