  • I’d be surprised if he was on the boat after that. You could understand if he blew up in the latter stages but he never went a yard. Has he had an injury this season, is that why we haven’t seen him?

    • Seemed unfit and although he wasn’t travelling the ground was horrendous, I’m sure though they hoped he might of stayed on into 7th pre race so on the face of it it’s a little disappointing even after a year since the fall, the next run before the festival will tell us more.

I would have him odds on to be on the boat.

He finishes the race.... why would they not have pulled him up?

Exactly what i think, i am not too bothered by that run, draw a line through it, drop a few pounds and try harder next time

Leg stretch, blows the cobwebs away, I'm sure they'll be quietly pleased with the horse.
I fully expect to see him over here in March, the great thing about running him today is that I think/hope it was a leg stretch before the Pertemps qualifier at Punchestown, Elliott probably knew he needed a blow before that race to ensure he can finish 4th/5th/6th...

            • A claimer they use sparingly with barely any success & in a 12k race, wouldn’t worry an ounce today but would more than welcome our hcappers to take similar dim view like some have on here

I can already imagine the shitstorm when he’s single digits in a race at the fez after going off any price you like today.

I thought the same - another run in qualifier likely.
But the stewards should definitely have had a word, after that.

Can you imagine a mark of 145...

Wont they just say 'he absolutely hated the ground'?

I've said a few times recently that stewards are partly to blame (both sides of the Irish Sea) for the dishonesty in handicapping, if there was greater focus on non triers with stiff penalties it would change the way horses are trained.
As for Column of Fire today he's probably done exactly what Elliott wanted...

Yep, and the lay off and injury etc.
                        Easy to blame.
                        But still.

If the Irish Handicapper drops him it would make it look even worse.
Doubt the UK handicapper would after one bad run.
Irish Handicapper shouldn't either, but we'll see.

                        • Small drift for both this race and Pertemps with a couple of bookies (365 and Hills), will be interesting to see if their prices get trimmed soon...

It was rotten, he ran like he was “got at” like Byrnes’s Viking Hoard.

Well technically he should, they have to handicap based on what they see, not what they think or guess.

                              • I've not backed COF yet, and maybe its now or never for the prices, just not sure what race it will be going for and william hill were only giving 12/1 any race. Not big enough IMO. It was a terrible performance, but could be a plot, or maybe the ability will still be there come March anyway. Im not sure what to.do!
