Well technically he should, they have to handicap based on what they see, not what they think or guess.
I think they generally have a common sense approach normally, to ignore one bad race, that was effectively pulled up.
Cos obviously they aren't going to drop him a stone are they ?
It would be guessing dropping him 2lbs wouldn't it really ?, on what logic would that be based on ?

Or would you say it ought to be 3lb ?
Haha, they actually should drop him a stone and he wouldn't get in - that'd stop them doing it
Of course you are right generally, just being pedantic.
I don't like that they can change marks through collateral form generally, but common sense means they do/should.
They probably already know he’s a 155 hurdler and would have proved that had he stood up last year, they just need to work out what race do we stick our 155 horse off 145...
Though of course the handicapper won’t be stupid enough to let him in off 145

I wonder if a lot of the people defending that performance today have already backed him and are just defending their position? You can’t seriously be happy with what you saw today! I’ve backed him a while ago and unless he gets another prep run I’d be writing him off as a probable non runner. I think people are just too attached because of what happened last season.
If you’ve not already backed column of fire, would you back him now??

It was much worse than I expected. As a backer, I'm clinging to the hope that he really needed it but to be beaten after 2 hurdles isn't ideal. Not many positives from a run as bad as that. He has barely drifted either!

The fact that he hasn’t drifted is a sad indictment on the integrity of the sport imo.

It's a fair enough question...but....
I would 100% be backing him NRNB after today if I wasn't already on. I could get out of every bet I have with him for my money back too, but I'm not....
As I said, if he pulled up, huge problem...... I'll ask again, why do you think he plugged on, never in contention, but still completed? If he was gone at the game, he'd have been pulled up.
In my opinion, taking it literally today means you don't think Gordon Elliott understands how to get a horse handicapped for Cheltenham.... do you think Gordon has forgotten about last season? You're implying it's a negative that "we" remember it, of course we do, so does the trainer....

He was 14/1 the night before and went off 33/1 so he has drifted - or did you mean ante post?
