A mates just told me that no winner of this race has ever gone on to win another race at the festival. Crazy stat if true. Also my Dame De Compagnie bet is fucked !

Probably is looking though that list of winners.
That said Whisper was a nose from winning an RSA.
Supasundae 2L 2nd in the Stayers hurdle.
So it's been very very close.

        Placed horses have won.
It's more of a curse, rather than a statistic.

It probably makes sense that Coral Cup winners have a lower/no future Festival win count.

For a start it’s not a novice race, and the winners are generally 6 to 9 yrs old.

                  * There isn’t a mid-trip Graded Hurdle to step into (unless you are a winning Mare)
                  * You’ve delayed moving over fences (for whatever reason) to have at least a 2nd, or 3rd or 4th year over hurdles.
                  * Winning a Coral Cup limits your ability to get low enough into a future Pertemps.

So the only future winners would come from those stepping up successfully, later, into Novice chasing, or those maybe good enough to go into a Stayers Hurdle, and win.

Its a really limited opportunity, not a curse.

Yep, think you are correct. But clearly Imperial Aura will put that right in the Ryanair next year

If Dame De Compagnie is targrted at the Coral Cup again then she might buck the trrend. A while back I recall it was suggested (on here ?l) that Nicky might have another go at this with her. Is this a viable proposition?

I haven't looked, but I can't imagine any of the Fred Winter (Boodles) winners have won at the Festival since.

That may change this year though............

Yeah that's where I thought she could end up again as she didn't go up anywhere near as much as I'd thought.

However, I also thought Sire Du Berlais may go back to the Pertemps, and he's favourite for the Stayers Hurdle now

Henderson was going to school her over fences to see if she took to them. No news of that yet. I'm personally hoping she ploughs through all of them and they send her to the Mares Hurdle. That's where I'd go with her. Clearly I know best
