My understanding is that if any horse doesn't qualify (whether they attempt a qualification or not) or is balloted out they pay refund, I could be wrong...
I think that's wrong Ista.
Tedham didn't qualify last year and I didn't receive a penny back from my badly placed bets. Ante post rules apply as far as I'm aware.

Correct on if balloted out I believe, not aware of non-qualification

OK, I did think I could be wrong.
That said, I'm sure they refunded Foxhunters who didn't qualify, and I remember a horse of D Pipe a few years ago that was favourite for the novice handicap chase for weeks then the handicapper reassessed him and he went up to 147 so didn't run, stakes refunded then I'm sure.
Whether these were bookie one offs or rules of gambling I'm unsure...

If a horse isn't eligible to run(some end up like that in the foxhunters they will void it etc) but bar balloting out at declarations you won't get money back for any horse whether they have even ran in a qualifier or not. Tedham as mentioned kept pulling out on the morning of qualifying races the bugger and cost a few trying to get him on early last season.
It's obviously not money back if they don't quality its a NR. Balloted out is a refund.
There is some ambiguity here GS so nothing is obvious.
There have been occasions when Hunters haven’t qualified for the March showpiece and bookies have refunded despite those horses failing to qualify.
I thought if one is betting antepost the only way you would get back your money is if the horse was disqualified to run at the time of placing the bet. For example, if you place a bet on a horse for the bumper whom has already run over hurdles.
Aren't the foxhunter refunds where the horses are ineligible to race in it and not just failing to qualify?
Possibly Joeski, but there is always a scrum in February to get horses qualified and where these are failed there have been occasions where these have been refunded.
Whether that is by rule or a gesture I’m unsure, but we have established horses who do not qualify for the Pertemps are deemed NRs and not voided so we have clarify in terms of this race...

If your horse is balloted out make sure you chase the bookies for your stake back. The amount of times I've had to go on live chat or get staff in bookies to phone head office is ridiculous. It isn't a losing bet if you qualify and are declared but don't get in the race.
