  • Gordon Elliott has entered both COLUMN OF FIRE and COMMANDER OF FLEET in the Carlisle Pertemps Qualifier on Sunday.

In Ireland COlumn of Fire is rated 145, and Commander of Fleet was 149 when last running in a hurdle over 18 months ago.

Quite possibly seeing what the UK handicapper is going to give them both, before assessing whether to bring either of them over.

UK Weights will be announced for them at 11am tomorrow, and available on the Racing Post website

Either would be top-weight if they ran.

Well that's positive. Clearly has the Pertemps on his mind like many of us have predicted/hoped

Lovely, wonder how many he will send to this race or just pick his two best handicapped ones maybe. It will be hard to fathom out

          • Commander of Fleet UK handicap mark 149
Column Of Fire UK handicap mark 148

            These are as expected.
BHA gave Column Of Fire a provisional rating of 148 for his Festival fall performance.

Commander if Fleet had a mark of 149 at the time of his last Grade 1 hurdles run in April 2019.

Not much upside to form allowed if they have a Pertemps plan off those figures.

Will need quiet runs including a Pertemps qualifier to get a run.

            • In Ireland, The Bosses Oscar went up 1lb today, to 138.

That's good news, and hopefully on to the Leopardstown Pertemps Qualifier at Christmas.

              • I'd say there's a fair bit of upside to CoF off 148. Had he won the MP he'd have gone up another 5lb, imo.

A quiet qualifying race will get him into the Pertemps with quite a bit up his sleeve.

                I've added another 0.75pt ew 28/1

                • Column Of Fire has to be considered for the Coral Cup off 148 too?

Not that Gordon wouldn't have two darts.

Can't get that priced up without giving the game away though

Couldn't be ruled out. He'd be of interest to me in either.

I'd love the double with TBO to be honest

TBO doesn't hurdle well enough for me. He's one I'll be against, especially as the price has gone on him now.

Much prefer Tower Bridge and CoF

                        • Id like Commander of Fleet off that mark

Given he split Minella Indo and Allaho in the bartlett that could drastically underestimate his ability

I would certainly agree that his form is top level. I just question whether his injury has meant he has lost some of that ability. Looked really average on his chase debut. I’m a forgivable type however

                              Yes that is the issue

And we won't know whether he has lost his ability or if he is running poorly to protect his mark if this race is the plan

I really feel this is the race they shouldve got rid of

Or at least change the conditions so you have to finish first 2 or 3 to qualify

Could potentially be nice but his Chase debut was fucking dreadful & you’ve got to wonder if he’ll ever be the same horse again as he showed as a novice. This is clearly plan B as they wouldn’t have bothered with the run over fences if this was his seasonal target, I was really hoping he could live up to the potential he’d shown previously but I’d be more than happy to wait & see a promising run and miss out on the bigger prices after his last showing
