Would be harsh but it looks like he'll be very close to 150.
He'll need another arrow for sure.
Column of Fire is the obvious one. He already has a UK mark of 148. Qualify in 4th, 5th or 6th and he will turn up off a mark of 148.

Makes so much sense to me, although GE may have an eye on the Coral Cup as others have said.

    • 3 horses have won big races in a week now with those tactics, Porter, SIlver Streak and Frodon. I guess it happens now and then where they just dont come back to the field.

        Yep.
It's where the jockey has to earn the money.
I think Coleman will regret not going with Silver Streak although he'd never gone on before so it was brilliant tactics by Streak's connections.
I've said what I think about the King George jockeys.

And after watching upping the ante earlier Gavin Lynch reminded me of Townend on Min in the Ryanair.
Frodon was ridden to lead early and attempted to slow it down after about four fences, but Townend was having none of it and took it up.
        Game over for Frodon.

If a Mullins horse doesn't do the same in the Gold cup I'd be very surprised.

Reckon Column of Fire would have a better chance over three miles than the Coral trip off his current mark.

Of course and each of those horses played to their strengths, fair play to them, Thou Silver streak prob was at least deserved as wasn't tactical imo. Some jockeys of late must watch the races back or see the pace maps/analysists(assuming bigger yards have them) and ask themselves a few questions.

            • Checking the HRI website this evening the front three in yesterday’s Pertemps Qualifier have rises, and 4th, 5th and 6th have no rises.

              DANDY MAG. 142 (+8lb)
              THE BOSSES OSCAR 143 (+5lb)
              UNEXPECTED DEPTH 141 (+3lb)

              • Someone just pointed out on twitter:

Last year. Black tears +1, coko beach +3, sire du berlais +2, column of fire +4, storyteller +7

Will they really go mad on TBO?

Might be completely wrong here, but isn’t the reason The Storyteller got stung because his Chase rating was so much higher?

I'd agree with that. So the others weren't really put up that badly!

Have to admit apart from him being from the perfect yard for this race and most other handicaps, i don't really get The Bosses Oscar "love in" at all.

If you watch his last two races, do you believe that's the ceiling of his ability?

The perfect yard is a huge factor, because he's a mid 150's horse that's going to run in a handicap off less than 150....

Still need things to fall right, plenty of luck in running etc, but the love for TBO is pretty clear to see...but I have 25/1 so that's probably why

I didn't see the "love in" with Tower Bridge when he was 14/1 and tipped up though...

Plus the tactic of making all and going from the front works better at certain courses, I can’t recall many championship races at the festival being won from the front where by the horse has made all and won?? It works at flat tracks better and I personally should have been wise to this tactic this Christmas and been ready to lump on in running on horses like Shan Blue & Frodon. Silver Streak surprised me with his front running tactics as he’s not done it before.

PTKO and Politilogue did it last festival but they were weak fields in hindsight

                        • I still think Mohaayed and Honest Vic offer much better value at 20/1 and Dan Skelton is pretty good at Cheltenham Festival handicap plots especially in hurdle races. He’s not as good as the master Gordon Elliot but at twice the price Mohaayed is still great value

Totally agree TKP. TBO my main dart at this, but looks plenty short enough now and Mohaayed still good value.

I took advantage of Paddy Powers ability to double up roll ups with horses in their TWAR market which TBO was available at 14’s so landed a few tasty roll ups on him in the summer so glad he’s being aimed at a realistic target

                                Definitely TKP!

TBO was one I looked at straight away in any of the handicaps because Elliott had mentioned handicaps as the plan for the season. Also from the MP run the step up would suit. Soon as the 25/1 you sort of have to take it when it’s one you fancy.

Probably won’t play too many more handicap horses until NRNB. Stung too much last season because of it. Unless one catches the eye that looks fairly obvious.
