For those who are more experienced staking this race antepost - is it stupid to get involved too heavily in this race too far our or does the nature of the qualifying criteria of the race lend itself to staking horses for it earlier than other handicaps?
I think your on the right track.

GE is the best trainer for this race.
GE is the best trainer for advising of targets
GE has said The Bosses Oscar will be aimed for the race.
Column of Fire could be confirmed a runner on Thursday for a race on Saturday, and GE has said that he is staying over hurdles.
Tower Bridge was a very good novice hurdler and Joseph has qualified him early for the Pertemps.

You may not need to make any further moves for a while, with those three in your team.

If you look through my Diary Links for Key Irish Races there are a few that are used for Pertemps planning.

If he is well then trying him over three miles would seem the natural progression. It wasn't as if he cruised his way through the Martin Pipe. Of course they might eventually have aspirations beyond handicaps, but right now Gigginstown already a much more obvious candidate in Fury Road for a crack at the Stayers. If you were intent on going chasing another hurdle run would just seem a waste.

            • Cracking smart must be in consideration for this too, still got an entry for the 3m @Navan Saturday. This race is a natural springboard for the leop qualifier. He ran an eyecatching race in the coral last fest, on and off the bridal all the way round, in the last 3 until 3 out. 13th jumping the 2nd last and only then picking up.. We all know the regard this horse wad held in by Gordy a couple yrs ago, always was a 3miler in most peoples view too. Where else would he go?

              • Tout est Permis will strike a big 3ml handicap hurdle one of these days. His Irish hurdle mark is 22lb lower than his chase mark. He was 3rd in last years Pertemps behind 2 super handicappers in SDB and The Storyteller

Not quoted yet that I can see

He took in the Navan race last year too enroute to chelt, 135 is very workable for him, do you think he'd risk that mark before next years pertemps, assuming thats the target of course.?

                  • ....I presume the Pertemps race at Sandown on Friday is another qualifier.

The Navan race with 53k to the winner could be very tempting in its own right. But if the Pertemps is the aim I would expect a quiet run. Looking back to last years run at Cheltenham he was running of 136. Through the 4th beaten 1 3/4l by TEP and left on the same mark in his next run I can see him on 138 in GB handicappers radar at the moment. I havent backed in any handicap race yet for next year and generally wouldnt until February but a quiet run on Saturday and something like 33/1 I would make an exception

Dream berry would be the only interest in that one for me, possibly. He suffered an overreach in last years final so can be forgiven that one.

                          • Just noticed Honest Vic stayed on 150 after his run against the big boys last weekend, he ran ok i think and stuck on quite well once 3 or 4 passed him. Wonder if we will see a couple of easy runs now to knock a couple of pounds off, if that happens he will be a big player in this.

                            • Portrush Ted is back and wins the Pertemps Qualifier off top weight (OR 139) at Sandown this afternoon.

Thats two comeback wins from long lay-offs in the last two seasons.

Trained by Warren G, I always wondered what happened to him after his chart hit “Regulate”

“It was a clear black night, a clear white moon,
Warren G. was on the streets, trying to consume
Some skirts for the eve, so I can get some funk
Just rollin' in my ride, chillin' all alone”

                              • I liked him for last season Pertemps but he seems just a fragile horse.

Hard to know what to make of these qualifiers although a few in the field needed a good run to add lbs as opposed to losing lbs so maybe marks up the win a bit.
