“I need to speak to Pat. He wasn’t mad keen on going (to Cheltenham), and I’m lukewarm about it,” said O’Neill.

“We just haven’t discussed it. We’ll probably leave him in and have a look, so that’s about as much as I can say really.

“There’s no real reason as such, other than Pat’s not a big fan. He loves Cheltenham, but he’d love to be able to go with a runner and enjoy it (in person).”

            • Not backed him myself, but i imagine those that have are on NRNB........hopefully!!

Could well be a few owners thinking that way this year, not being able to go.
I feel for owners that dont usually have one for the festival.

              • Okay, you can all call me crazy but let me get my thoughts down on paper here and I can get opinions on if lockdown has broken me and I’ve gone batshit crazy!

Grumpy Charley - 50/1 EW (PP 4 places)

                here’s my thought process:

looking through the majority of the runners in the market there’s lots and lots that won’t run.

                Soaring Glory
                Bob Olinger
                TTL
                Ganapathi
                Irascible
                Keskonrisk
                Teaphoo
                Gowel road
                Micro manage (surely won’t go?)

the list goes on and on.

I then took the view to look at the horses that were improving instead of came with a reputation and have disappointed. (IMO there isn’t many of them).

it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that we would have a field of 8 decent ish horses then a few rags.

I accept AI & BA will probably fit 1st & 2nd. But then there’s two more places to fight it out for.

I really liked the way GC relentlessly galloped and just ground down the leader giving him a bunch of weights. He’s also won on his previous 3 starts so knows how to get his head in front. Jumps nicely too!

currently rated 143. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hit the frame.

okay.... possibly that was a poor argument.

let me look at this angle.

Soaring glory won LTO comfortably in a handicap off 133 gaining a speed figure of 71. Now rated 143 & 7/1 for the Supreme.

Grumpy Charley won LTO comfortably in a handicap off 133 gaining a speed figure of 69. Currently 50/1 for the supreme.

                Thoughts?

I like him. Does his best work at the end of his races and will devour the hill. Can’t help feeling like a step up in trip will bring about a chunk of improvement though particularly on better ground. Also has an entry in Ballymore and Martin Pipe and wouldn’t be the biggest surprise to see him pitch up in one of these.

Yeah I just thought that 80/1 in the Ballymore might tell it’s own story. A strong pace in the Supreme would suit.

Really can’t imagine them going Pipe carrying that weight when they have 2 others entered lower down.

Yep I see the logic. Clondaw Cian may struggle to get in and Garo DJ also entered in Coral so things up in the air a little. I hope you are right as I have him at very silly prices on the exchange. I certainly think there are worse 50-1 pokes than this fella. Best of luck

                        • I cannot belive this news about SG..I'm gutted.
Did they think restrictions may have been lifted by Tuesday and think they might be watching the supreme live.

Thats terrible news..yes I have some tasty prices before and after newbury but its really bad for the game.

....thought it was bad news re Sir Gerhard when I saw SG. Whipped to the top of the page & saw Supreme. BB got me panicked on another thread earlier.

I had Soaring Glory nicely covered with a ‘win today’ offer, so disappointing if it doesn’t turn up.

                              Thought the same! Haha.

I've got Soaring Glory backed at 50/1 from December. Think I might cash and re-back NRNB, win only. Returns wouldn't be too much less but would lose the big EW part of the bet, which was the most appealing part really.

                              • If blue lord goes county & soaring glory skips Cheltenham this will be a really poor renewal. Want to wait for the hills 7 places to play metier but don’t want him to shorten. Think they’ll even do it if the race is going to be so poor?
