  • I know we've been down the ownership relatability road before, but given the discussion above, I have just done Sa Majeste in the Coral Cup and Waterford Whispers in the Martin Pipe. The latter is being nibbled at today and I would expect that if Sa Majeste is rated out of the Pipe then Waterford Whispers' price could well be impacted if seen as the top JP horse in that race. Of course there are others entered and plenty of variables but I was backing Waterford WHispers and had a free bet to use - it made sense to me!

    • Better Days Ahead to be targeted here per ATR Tour

Could well be Gordons No.1 for the race and has been campaigned very well by him

      Still 14s available with Coral

        Good news.

Think he's up there as one of my biggest winners in the race.

        • Sa Majeste 140 according to RTC on Twitter. Could go either here or Coral Cup. Backers should be happy

…..I know Saxon said he needed <145 to get into the MP, so 140 would appear to give him options. Plenty of blue for both but looking a bit shorter now for the MP.

I'd agree. Willie has a superb record in the race as well.

                    • Shanbally Kid got a nice mark, should he get in. Willie has mentioned the race and he's 33-1 Ladbrokes and Coral.

…good spot, as low as 12-1 365. Mullins suggests he’s a difficult ride and finding the right jockey will be a challenge.

Any time I have thoughts about race plans for Willie's Festival runners, and in particular in handicaps, I go to the

Willie Mullins 10- Year Festival Trends Diary that I update each year in the Diary Section (sticky in the top group)

Willie traditionally has nothing to do with Novice Hurdlers going to the Coral Cup (3 in a decade), and the 5yos that he sends to it (3 in a decade) two were former Juvenile Hurdlers in thier 2nd season hurdling.

So for me I think it goes against the grain for Quai De Bourbon to come to the Coral Cup.

Especially when he's been mark checked for the M.Pipe and got 140 a couple of weeks ago.

He prefers to run his more gnarled and experienced horses here, and has a poor record in the race.

That could change (everything does eventually) - but if I had to guess which way QDB would go I would say to the M.Pipe, and I have only backed him in that race.

Sa Majeste I backed NRNB as soon as I saw the initial price with the first NRNB bookie.
Ive covered him for the Coral Cup too, NRNB - fearing a mark of 145+, and being knocked out of the M.Pipe.

Im happy to leave both bets in place, would prefer him in the M.Pipe,.

As a 6yo, second season hurdler, he's a bit more experienced and older than QDB, but not by much, he had 18 months off after his 2 french hurdles runs, and 2 runs since for Willie.

On balance, on what Willies done in the past with his hcap hurdlers, my assessment is they could well be his stable no1 and 2 for the M.Pipe.

But his 5 Coral Cup entries are largely inexperienced and younger than those hes ran in the past, so maybe changes are afoot. Lombron and Ocastle Des Mottes are both 5yo's, Shanbally Kid a 7yo, and all 5 Coral Cup entries have the M.Pipe entries too.

So he is moving toward younger less experienced runners in the Coral Cup whoever he lets run in it.
