  • Sorry I haven't scrolled all the way back so he may have already been mentioned, but does anyone like Jessie Evans for this?

    • What's this move for state man today?
Someone said about a preview during racing today. Did Paul say something maybe?

        Not seen him mentioned much.

        4th in the Galway Hurdle.

        Well beaten in the Greatwood.

West Cork beat him 14l getting 9lbs, now rated 1lb lower so still has him covered on that, plus he had a 5lb claimer on that day.

Hard to get too excited at 20/1 imo

What’s your case to suggest he should be lower?

I can't make a case for him for the County anyway

Thanks mate, just doing the watching everything and anything on youtube right now and someone mentioned this horse as a stand out bet. Couldn't see it myself, so thought I would ask for peoples views on here. Personally finding this race one of the harder handicaps to call at the moment, so just waiting to see where State Man goes, as he will be carrying a bit of my money.

The Greatwood form is about the best piece out there I think. Whether you’re willing to forgive his run vs West Cork is another matter but the market expectations might tell you more than the actual finishing position

I’d say the Galway hurdle form is the eye catching piece of form. There are some very good horses in behind him that day and he is only a pound higher than he ran off that day having been dropped 3 pound for his run in the greatwood.

Fair point about that run being better but the subsequent form of the Greatwood is nuts. 5th, 6th and 8th all won races of similar quality since. 7th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th all advertised that they were well treated that day by winning at least once since. He’s only 1lb lower as well.

Do you not just back West Cork then ?
Skelton rates his chances and has hidden him away since...

I almost certainly will do come the day. My point was more around that Jesse Evans was 11/2, West Cork 11/1 that day so it’s not a hard argument to construct that Jesse Evans is a big price this time in relation with the added weight swing.

He's the winner for me. Travelled and jumped brilliantly in the Greatwood and went wide most of the way so the form worth a fair bit more than the final result. Clearly goes well fresh and completely laid out for this race. Skeltons recent record in the County is superb so he must have a major chance. Think State Man will go elsewhere due to his inexperience and expect WC to go off a well backed fav.

Skelton dropped his whip late on too which is another little upgrade you can give… lots to like although I think coming wide was a benefit so would be marking up Camprond for taking the inner instead

He actually got a really bad overreach At Ascot I believe so wasn’t the plan to hide him I don’t think and he hasn’t been laid out as Lobos suggested. I think DS described it as one of the worst overreaches he has seen....I’m pretty sure it was this fella
