Safe to say the going description of good is just plain wrong it was gd to firm or firm

I'd be against pretty much every horse that ran that day

Can I ask why you'd be against those horses ?
I have no vested interest in the horses just curious on the thought process behind this decision.

I'd think they will have had very hard races running that fast on that ground

They will need to be very tough to get over that and go again fairly quickly

That;s fair,I'd have thought 4 weeks between races is ample as long as all are sound after racing on quick ground.

My thinking has always been that horses that put up big performances on extreme ground, whether that be firm or heavy, will struggle to back it up unless having a good break or an iron constitution

            • Looks like Hunters Yarn is coming here now according to Anthony Bromley - laughed it off when Nick said not to worry about a big runner field when they've got a stone in hand

Looks like he is after Anthony Bromley’s comments. All over HY for this.

Edit: just seen the above comment.

I'm going to take the 9/1 BOG

I kind of didn't want to, as feel like the State Man angle is a bit lazy....

Was early to mention Hunters Yarn on here for the Supreme / Ballymore NRNB at 1/4f when he won in Jan..... after a disappointing defeat FTO at 4/6f.

I didn't think about the handicap route for him until much too late.... for the prices anyway.

Might have to play the Hunters Yarn / Imagine double from when American Mike got turned over when the 3

Surely people don't actually think he's got a stone in hand?

He'd have to be a 161 rated horse for that to be true... If so he would 100% be in the Supreme IMO.

When you consider State Man, what you've said don't make much sense.
If it was another yard, then maybe, but Willie is just splitting them up.

State Man was 141... Is Hunters Yarn 6 pounds better than State Man?

State Man could have been a stone well in (well he was) and still be 155 which isn't enough to be competitive in most Supremes. Last year's Supreme looked way hotter than this year's too, 155 would be right in the mix this year I'd say.

                        Absolute apples and oranges.

I agree Willie is just splitting them up. Doesn't mean that Hunters Yarn is well handicapped.

Not a stone no, but at the same time I don't think that mark is beyond him.. It will also be interesting to see if they put Kieran Callaghan up or stick with Paul.

Wouldn't necessarily agree with the statement that if he were a 161 horse he'd go supreme though, as SM was obviously their best 2m novice last year even taking into account he was 'well in'

I couldn't have him at all if he turned up here... All he's beaten is a few handicappers who probably want further.

I mean the second point is obvious now, but was it obvious this time last year? I wouldn't say so. Don't think you could have said with any confidence that he was better than Dysart Dynamo or Sir Gerhard after he finished one race for Willie at 1/7. I also suspect the double green would want him in the Supreme if he had a chance of winning it, but that's just my opinion of the owners, nothing to back that up.

It was a very solid field for a listed race and he went through the race like a class act, beating what is now right at the top of the MP betting. Looks quite a prospect imo and even Willie saying he would be an Arkle horse next year speaks volumes - he at least sees him as a g1 novice chaser next year.

I do actually think he's a good horse, I'm not rubbishing him. Just would put me off massively if Willie doesn't think he's good enough to run in a pretty wide open Supreme. I think it would be unlikely that connections would be convinced to run a Supreme candidate in a handicap too. If he was off 141 like State Man was, then I'd say fair enough, I just don't see it off 147. Maybe it's just more the vibes I get from M&S, to me it seems like they want grade 1 winners, if they had a chance in one then they'd always choose that over a handicap.
