Just love that they've targeted the race all season. Got 3 quick runs in then a rest then a lovely prep around the track to give him a sighter of the fences. Was taking on two very well handicapped sorts on Trials day and ran a super race off a big weight. I do like him a lot.

Are there any big Handicap chase races at Ascot close to or after the Fez? If so then that's where Vic will be going.

One at the end of March, no 3m chase though.

They chose to go the Ultima last season with him, and the ground went against them in a big way, not just them, but for a lot of the field. No less than 12 were pulled up in the race last season, the most in the last 10 renewals of the race. He was also only 6 at the time. He's a year older, looks stronger this season too.

Venetia doesn't have a good record in the race, in fact it's pretty rubbish, however, she mostly runs horses with very little chance.

14 runners in the last 10 renewals, 9 of which were 25/1 or bigger and ran like it too. The 5 shorter ones, ranged between 12/1 & 16/1 and the best she's achieved is 4th, however, in amongst them were Victtorino last season, with the ground excuse and then another one that was pulled up where 10 others were also pulled up in the race, due to the going, this one also lost a shoe during the race. So I could forgive two of them. Cepage finished 4th and ran a solid enough race, considering he was running off 158 (top weight). She also had Yala Enki finish 6th (you'll get 6 places on the day, so this may be a way to play), again off a big weight (carried 11-9), and lastly, was Cepage again, carrying another big weight (11-8), who ran a solid enough race, finishing 7th, without quite being good enough at the weights.

I was a lot sweeter on Victtorino before his Ascot run, I'm not sure he needed that but can totally understand why they went for the race, given the prize money and the fact he loves the course, however it has made life a little more difficult off the back of a hard effort too.

I've not seen Pauling's comments on his stable tour, so no idea.
I hope he goes pertemps as I have backed at 66-1, and he's a lot better handicapped over hurdles 135 vs 145.
Hopefully that tempts them.

Purely out of interest, how comes Lowrys Bar didn’t make your shortlist Q?

I quite like him for this but it’s (like the Boodles asides from Gaelic warrior obviously) never a race I go mad on. I do quite like him though I have to say and will almost definitely be backing him in the coming days at 10s. Think he’s rock solid, is consistent, is clearly improving and an excellent jumper which is obviously a huge plus (even despite Lobos’ one fall stat).
