I know you said you mentioned him early on your site (I don’t subscribe personally so will take your word for that) but I’m not sure you can claim to have started a whole gamble on the horse? A blind man could’ve seen he was well handicapped.

Not necessarily aiming this just at you but the way people on here sometimes try to claim they were the first to mention a horse, or first to have started a gamble is just bizarre and totally not needed.

I suspect I backed him at a relatively similar time you did but i certainly am not claiming to have created some gamble on a horse so clearly well handicapped. Whether you would admit it or not, my confidence in Gaelic in recent months seemingly riled you a little bit because you’d mentioned him presumably earlier elsewhere.

Anyway, he got beat which was crushing but there we go. That’s racing. I suspect 9 times out of 10 he would have won and the whole jumping right thing has cost us. The Boodles thread is never really one that gets much traction post race but I wanted to make my point anyway whether he’d won or lost.

    • ….if Scooby91 shout for next years race even turns up I think we can certainly applaud that shout. I’m not even sure the horse exists.

Can only say I was devastated trackside for a good while after that. If he doesn’t jump right, he clearly wins easily. The early each way bets copped obviously from around Christmas time but it didn’t feel like a win at all.
It was harsh. As it happened, I would have preferred being wrong about Brazil and Gaelic Warrior to have won. I think his jumping to the right ultimately cost him, and maybe a little bit of hardened battling experience, as Brazil managed to find more when push come to shove. I've no doubt Gaelic Warrior could be a very good horse though.

Everyone I spoke to/heard from leading up to the festival said the only thing that could get GE beat was his lack of experience, they look to have been proved right as it’s easy to find the six inches of inexperience he was beaten by…

Sorry, it's really puerile but I'm chuckling away to myself about "six inches of experience".

Haha very good, hadn’t considered any undertone whatsoever when typing it.

As you know bud, I just could not see him beaten. I’m fortunate the each way prices were big enough early to have at least made a good amount back. But the win multiples that he was in that paid alright that would’ve been massive had he won. That being said, if tiger had won, Gaelic getting beaten a nostril would’ve haunted me for years as it would’ve been the only one to deny me a 45k payout. Have never ever got even remotely close to anything in that region so if it was Gaelic after all these months I’ve raved about him.. I’d have been even more gutted.

All that said, he didn’t win so I guess to a large extent I was wrong and he never was a good thing. But he lost at least 10 lengths jumping like a drunk Asterion Forlonge so on the other hand his engine was just miles superior to even get within a nose of the winner who himself is probably well handicapped. Not sure he’s a ballymore winner with that shoddy jumping but he’s no 33/1 shot is Gaelic.

So you think he's better suited to the midrange trip?

He did lose ground himself but whatever he cost himself he cost Brazil more

Brazil almost knocked over and shuffled back at the second hurdle because of GW

and impeded by him several more times after that

Youd think Mark walsh would've learnt from colreevy and elimay and sat just behind GW and taken the inside when he went right

Not sure he’s a supreme type. But he’s almost definitely a grade 1 level horse. Which sort of pushes him to the Ballymore by default.

I’m not sure re Brazil losing more ground. Some of those hurdles down the back straight he’s lost 6 lengths and Brazil not interfered with at all. Ok he’s not helped him for the last couple but those before that he wasn’t really affected

Brazil gets knocked right back because gaelik warrior jumps into other horses at the second hurdle

Thatd normally be race over in a competitive handicap so brazil mustve had plenty in hand

Don’t get me wrong, the winner was probably an above average winner. But I’m adamant the best horse finished second.
