    • Gaelic Warrior backed in again following weight released.....now 5/2 with PP/Betfair. Gamble of the festival.

It’s probably a good thing that the Boodles is on day one now as it prevents Mullins building up too much momentum. Imagine if he’d already had a load of winners on the board, Gaelic Warrior would be going off odds on.

True, but he could still go into this on the back of a Supreme, Arkle, Champion Hurdle and Mares Hurdle four timer...

A few years back he’d have had a good chance of being on the five timer. I’m not even sure he’ll have two on the board from those races this year.

Yes it's not a likely scenario but neither is it impossible.
Honeysuckle is a near penalty kick and she will appear in many multiples, Supreme, Arkle, CH and MH could easily/are likely to all head Irelands way, Gaelic Warrior in race 6 could well be a crucial leg in those Irish multis...

If the Irish win those first few races on day 1 there'll be an almighty gamble going on in the ring on course too - especially if punters have money in their pockets and are 6 Guinnesses deep by then...

Odds on the Irish are more than 6 Guinnesses deep by the last race (NAP).

Aye, if SG/DD, Blue Lord and Honeysuckle go in, GW is gonna get pumped even harder than he is now

                    • Will clearly depend on how the earlier races go but this Gaelic Warrior is gonna be a fascinating SP. The books will still have over 20 races to go so far from bust or bang….But he’s gonna go off short isn’t he! I’d guess circa 6/4f assuming no major boil overs earlier on the card & Willies firing

Any anoraks out there know what the shortest priced handicap favourite has been over the years? Genuine question as I have no idea.

Unsinkable Boxer was a monster gamble but doubt he was shortest SP. Story here if you’ve not heard of it:

A couple of yrs before my first festival this - would have been some atmosphere in the ring this day!

Doesn’t really answer you question but I recently had a look at the shortest winning SP over the last 5 years & it was The Shunter at 9/4 in last years Plate.

Checked this race the other day and it was 15/8f - Ashkazar in 2008.

                              Didn't check other races.

                              • Champion Green getting 125 could make it interesting... surprised they've let him in so lightly for one that's evidently (in my view) been campaigned with a mark in mind. He's 90 on the flat and arguably value for that.
