It’s all the same at the end of the day in respect of how it affects results. But it’s the attitude and bare faced lies that come with it that annoy me. And the stare he gives interviewers when the dare to insinuate he’s laid one out. Somehow I find it more tolerable when a trainer gives it a shrug, a smile and a “ah looks sure, spring ground, wrong trip”.
A bit like when Brailsford comes out and says we’ll be the first team to win the tour clean and then drugs then silly. Far less tolerable than the usual Omertà where everyone’s at it but stays schtum.
I suppose that’s my problem though, rather than his.

As a very irregular poster I’m amazed at the Skelton support on here.
The festival is on its absolute arse and I say that as a die hard who marks it in the calendar as the best week of the year, every year.
We already have the Mullins fav procession and we are now celebrating a horse that is NOT just well handicapped but has deliberately not tried for a FULL season and we think it’s ok as we backed it?
I have been to the fez for 12 years for the full week, this is the first one I have decided to watch from home / the boozer. I tried to explain to a non racing friend how/why a horse with that form had won at that price and they could not configure.
Not to turn this into a depressing thread but this is exactly why attendances/ floating fans are on the downgrade. For US it’s easy to see, for the remainder it’s blatant cheating.

But I'm sure you know this sort of thing has been in racing forever, although not all are as brazen and outspoken as Skelton when doing it. The excuses and bullshit he blurts is laughable.
However, he has at least forged a way to be competitive at the festival and has to be applauded for working the system to his and his owners advantage.
It is a dirty way to win though, but they all do it from time to time, and his card really ought to be marked now.
Unfortunately the handicap system although successful overall has it's weak spots. You have to hope that the authorities get a hold of abusers.
The handicapper is to blame in this instance IMO as he did not have to drop him if he didn't want to. He proved that with his treatment of Good time Jonny.
I don't think this is why attendances are dwindling either as there's more problems than dodgy training tactics that have been around since racing began.

No idea how to quote the above tweets - apologies! I agree with both! And whilst I agree the above has been going on since the start of time ,I’d argue not this blatant without punishment and also whilst I agree not to do with dwindling attendances, it 100% doesn’t help. The casual on the day £20 punter wants to ‘feel’ like they have got value. Think we sometimes forget that’s what 85% of the on course and 95% of the viewers relate to!

Antepost backers are a specialist bunch.
If I was a turn up on the day merchant like 10 years back I'd be well turned off by almost everything. Just on the punting side the number of short priced favourites and then like you say, the random short priced handicap winners with duck eggs against the name.
I remember being flummoxed when Buena Vista won the pertemps 2 years running with pretty poor seasonal formvery similar to how Langer Dan has managed it.

The festival is on its arse, but not cos Dan Skelton has plotted another handicap good thing.
The reason the festival is now a snore fest is cos one trainer is dominating with all the best horses.
Until we can rectify that all this is just fluff.

The sport is on its arse because there aren't enough 160+ horses to fill the grade 1s
And 80% of the ones about are trained by one man
It's a good job he's happy to run them all against each other
Not because Skelton lands a plot
And remember he bled last time and had ulcers treated
This was a top training performance
Unless you think the vets that diagnosed and treated those issues were lying and also involved in the "charade"

Genuinely don't get the issue at all and anyone who booed on course is a clown. If you follow the sport you know exactly what's been going on with this one, if you don't follow it closely enough then tough shit. They're handicaps, the system invites such capers and punishes the naive, why is it suddenly an outrage?! I don't care where a horse is trained, but on this one have to join the chorus of those saying if it was an Irish training 'performance' it'd be getting lauded as genius. We all knew what was going on which is why it was highlighted and backed accordingly by many on here.
