I had my eyes on Gabynako for this too. This should perhaps go in the stupid question section, but do you have any idea what his rating is over fences yet Spectre? Weirdly, it isn't listed on the RP website or the HRI site. He's surely going to be early 150's though which will tax will make this difficult.

Question answered! Where did you find that DS? Sorry can see he is on the HRI site... was shaded out in blue because he was the first G and had missed him

Simply the Betts the highest rated winner of the race on 149. Will be tough off 152/153 for me.

https://www.hri-ras.ie/ihrb-handicap...ll-nh-ratings/ Shows him in blue right at the top with chase rating of 150.

This is what I don’t get (aside the whole having a Cheltenham winner prestige thing)…..

If this horse is gonna be rated circa 150-155 in the UK (agree with your logic by the way on his mark) then why oh why don’t they run him in the G1 at Sandown tomorrow. It’s got 5 runners, 3 of them rated in the mid 130s FFS. The winning prize is ?45,500. Run bad & fair argument to drop that mark. Win & as big a pot as this 20+ festival handicap.

I just do not get race planning at the moment. Surely this horses golden hcap chance was last yr in the Pipe when he was unluckily brought down. But he’d have ended up bumping into GDC anyway!

Just my opinion but I’d be staggered if he ran in this tbh

It's a very good question and the turn out tomorrow is disappointing. I do like both L'Homme Presse and Pic D'Orhy and should be a decent race between them, but Mullins could have sent Gaillard Du Mesnil here instead of Leopardstown where he's unlikely to finish better than 3rd or even sent Jungle Boogie if he isn't being aimed at the Ten Up. Gabynako would probably be 2nd favourite in this if he ran? As you say a decent prize and unlikely to be hampered in running (unless Pic D'Orhy falls), which they've already had the misfortune at Cheltenham.

It does however show the lack of decent novice chasers this year in Britain at the mid trip.

Thanks mate. Had a look at him earlier in the season as a possible for handicap, will revisit my notes now with more evidence to go on

I've watched Saturday's 2 1/2 mile G3 a few times now, taking a second look at Torn and Frayed and also of course Galahad Quest. Another one I took from the race though is Coole Cody. I thought the ride after they turned for home was not very well disguised and the result was clearly designed to drop a pound or two ahead of (I presume) coming back for this race in March. Mission accomplished in that respect and now only two pounds above his previous winning mark, the 33s on offer is, I think, fair. 25s NRNB (but I can't get on with Hills) and I think next best with that concession is 16s, so the AP price appeals more to me.

Interesting to see on Sunday will the 2m5f handicap chase at the DRF throw up anyone for this. I like the look of Gallant John Joe and Max Flamingo if either were to run into a place on Sunday, they could run well here off a mark of around 145ish?

Not often I'll dabble in an Irish hcap but I do like the look of Max Flamingo form this season, Mark of 142 whilst no gift should see him be competitive in handicaps and you've got to look to take Blackbow on off a mark of 156 imo. Surely no reason the trainer won't be fully focussed on this with it being worth significantly more than the Plate tbf.

Must be such a great horse to own Coole Cody, owes connections nothing and been a star for year now.
I could make a case for him ER given his form but the cynic in me says there will be far less exposed horses, I've thought for a while that there are so many Irish mid distance/staying novice chasers and there can be only one winner of the Turners and BANC, re-routing one or two here isn't impossible and if that happens Coole Cody like many before him will just get unlucky.
I can see myself getting involved on the day when 6 places likely to be freely available...

Was really keen on Noble Yeats for this but not sure what he’ll get from the handicapper for that. Massive run behind Ahoy Senor

Assuming he’s fit & healthy after that tumble in the Drinmore, I wonder what mark Cape Gentleman will get in this? 146-149 range & I’d fancy he’d go pretty close. Got a similar feel to The Storyteller from a few yrs ago for me…
