  • Am confusing myself, wondering if a fellow FJ can help..

Am looking at Whacker Clan’s rating. Ran at Cheltenham in Oct off 125, won and now has a 131 rating. Is that an Irish rating which will be subject to UK tax next week or is that a UK mark as the race he won was in England?

….HdB gave him a mention for this in his stable tour but indicated him getting in might be touch and go.

Thanks, Eggs, yeah, I read that. Think it was Q that mentioned him. 131 will be very tight which was why I was querying the mark. If it is UK (as per Muswell's response) then he will need a bit of luck. Looking at Saxon's info 131 would have got in 5 of the last 10.

          • 131 is the Irish rating. He also was given a BHA performance mark of 131 for his run at Cheltenham but as it's and Irish horse, they don't give an update on the handicap mark. Amirite was in the same race running of 142. His performance mark was 137 but they also didn't give him an updated handicap rating.

Yep, no official UK mark, but the performance rating when higher is often a good indicator, but not guaranteed to be the mark when announced as obviously some collateral or other reasoning might change it. Expect it to be very close to that though, and 2lb or so higher would not hurt his chances.

Yeah I'd expect 132 or 133. No real collateral form reasons to raise but may not want to rate him the same as Ireland, although every year there are a couple rated the same. Not looked at where he'd be in the weight list but a pound or two couldn't hurt.

132 or 133 would be better than 131, to give certainty of getting a run off close to bottom weight.

                    • Been looking at Elliott potential runners for this race this morning.
Although without Codd I'm not as obsessed as previously.
Cool Survivor has lingered around for ages but has been notably quiet for a bit now.

The only other 2 I've backed are Firm Footings and Where it all Began.

I do think Where it all began would be the most interesting one if he turned up but the Irish National much more likely I'd imagine, but he does have an entry and we know his mark (135).
It's worth having in my team at least as 20-1 would go off less than 6-1 SP I'd be fairly sure of that.
The form of his last run is very good indeed and he stays forever. RPR 144 etc etc.

Gordon has dozens for the Nationals so really depends on the owners and how much Gordon wants festival winners. He might also be influenced on whether or not he can beat some of the opposition though as Perceval (unless hammered by handicapper) looks a good thing.

Really like him for this race and wrote about him in my diary last week.

That said, I hadn't looked at Where It All Began, but looks like I might have to cover him now too!

                          • Minella Cocooner 148 in Ireland, so won't be getting in the Kim Muir, for those that were interested in him being Patricks ride.

I thought you were debating Firm Footings in the Grand Annual when I mentioned the Plate the other day? Now you're adding another mile
I'd love to know if there are any stats for a chaser only running over 2m and then up to 3m2f. I'm not a huge one for distance stats but I can't imagine many have attempted that before.

Yeah, not the obvious route but the market suggests it might be Gordons main hope for this, but we'll see
