It's not a myth. Racing is the ultimate physical test which places stress on a horses body and contributes to degenerative changes throughout the body. Injuries and niggles, which are more frequently obtained through racing, regularly leave a legacy of pain and inflammation, so a lightly raced older horse is less likely to have these deficits

A woeful but very funny analogy

This year will probably be a year or two too late for him at 11 years old. Annoying having fancied him heavily for the race in both 2019 and 2020.

The Package won the race as a twelve year old but where as you’re having to go back 4 years and that Delta Work 2nd over hurdles with Glenloe (albeit injury has restricted his chances), The Package was a multiple placed festival horse and just a year before placed 3rd off a higher mark in the Ultima at 11, up against Holywell who in the same year The Package was winning the KM, was coming 4th in a Gold Cup off 163.

I still couldn’t dismiss him just on age though. No doubt Elliott will line up a few for the race. With a decent one for Jamie Codd. And ones with a younger and more progressive profile. But it’s another race he excels at with 3 wins and a 3rd in the last 6 years. Add in the potential booking of O’Connor who has a 1st and a 2nd in that same period. You have to take the horse seriously and be wary imo if Elliott is targeting him here.

But I couldn’t touch him without NRNB.
and I’ll except he’s going to be a very short price in all likelihood with that concession

        This is my same thoughts.
Which I summed up with an expletive.
        But meant this.

His enforced layoff doesn’t seem to have improved his jumping either. Just saying.

I think 20/1 is a bet now. Great ride today i thought - nursed him around and made him look very ordinary. Came home in his own time and i can see him improving for the application of money and winning easily having avoided any major 'tax' from the British Handicapper. The plan would have looked a bit lame if he had been off today.

Would you not be worried by his jumping? half of the fences today he jumped like a pig.

Yeah i know - looked a bit like Mount Ida today - and we know how that ended. One day in mind and O'Connor had a spin. Just dont see him going off 20/1 on the day

There's not just the problem with this jumping, he's also unlikely to get a mark that gets him in to the Kim Muir, so any plan to give him a quiet ride yesterday would have been pretty flawed. You'd usually need mid-130 just to get a run and he's only 129 and possibly going backwards. There's no reason for the UK handicapper to give him too much upward help either. Glenloe is a busted flush.

He was given 135 (+6) I think when he entered him over here the other day.
Although he could easily drop him for that shite yesterday.

If Glenloe turned up on the day, you consider him a busted flush Spectre?

                          Come on.

Next you'll be telling us JP and Elliott couldn't plot a horse for a festival handicap.

Considering adding Cat Tiger for this
Think it might be the plan
I know the jockey has limited ability but he is a likeable chap and if he were to ride a Cheltenham winner I would like to be on
20/1 at present, although I’m not sure the price will collapse much when it goes nrnb

You'll be better placed to remember than me.... but was Cat Tiger the one 'we' liked last year but he specifically said it's a year too soon and rode something else?

Or am I getting massively confused? (more likely!)

Yeah he was talked about Kev
However he did run Shantou Flyer in it and it finished third
Obviously he couldn’t ride it last year,Harry Cobden I think
Cat Tiger looks a decent horse for this race and is one of the few at this stage that I would be confident that will turn up
