Slating them because they're going for a grade 1?

On one hand people complain about small field sizes in the graded races, but then you have McCoy slating owners because they want to run a horse in a grade 1 who's good enough to run in a grade 1, instead of running away to a handicap.

I backed Giovinco for the Ultima and have him in the BANC from earlier in the season, would have liked his chances in the Ultima more but I don't see what's wrong with owners wanting to run in the better races if they think he has a chance.

Completely agree and said as much in my diary RR.

Yes he’d have a better chance in the Ultima, almost a favs chance for me, but why no go for the Grade 1.

I’ve backed him nrnb for Turners so fine with him not going Ultima personally but unlucky for those that have him for that race.
And who gives a flying ….what McCoy thinks??

The media careers of Ruby and AP are so contrasting aren't they? Ruby couldn't tip a waiter, but I could listen to his analysis all day. Meanwhile AP often just comes across like a weirdly bitter man ("so he does") and I rarely think "wow, McCoy really added value there"

                  But I covered anyhow.

Race looks much more open and winnable with the 2 previous Fav's getting shafted.
                  Little bit of blue now....

Surely you go to the race you can win? too many English owners on a cock rubbing exercise imo.

By that logic you'd have a 1 runner champion hurdle to start.

To each their own, some owners would go for the likely easier handicap race to try and get a win and some prize money. Some don't really care about that and just want to run in the best races they can and try to win a grade one against the big boys. I don't get why any owner would be slated for doing the latter.

It's not as if he's some kind of no hoper either. He's had one bad run this season, and finished 1.5l off the current BANC second fave before that, on another day he might have won if the jockey was able to delay his run longer. There's question marks over a fair few of the runners in the BANC and Turners so I can see why the owners would think they might be able to go close in one of those races.
