Somebody then got an email reply from the handicapper saying that yes, 144 is the mark and Escaria ten can run off that and be x amount of lbs ‘well in’ on his Irish rating (which had been subsequently re-assessed for the sunday race).

what the handicapper didn’t make clear, is that he was referring to the specific race he had an entry for that week, and he was subsequently re-assessed to take into account that run which put him out of the Kim Miur picture
Spot on, Escaria Ten was given a handicap rating for a normal every race, that week, so his Sunday performance wouldnt have been updated until the following week

This follows the common practice for normal everyday handicap races - Escaria Ten was entered at Musselburgh for a normal everyday handicap.

    ----------------------

Practice for ALL Early Closing Big Handicaps is to include all GB/IRE Sunday runs/form from the weekend before Handicap Weights are released for this type of race.

    --------------------

Different practice for those two types of races - normal handicaps vs Big Race Early handicap weights.

    --------------------

    Coko Beach 150
    Snow Leopardess 146
    Death Duty 144

These all have Sundays race/form included in their assessment and rating for.....

    * the Grand National
    and
    * all then future race entries from Monday 21st February

I am assuming the BHA havent lied to me, when I asked them 3 separate times, and got the same definitive answer.....

.....but......maybe they dont like being asked, and have tricked me.

    I hope not.

That’s some fall from grace, he was his Arkle horse at the start of the season!

Interesting runner, Will certainly appreciate going left handed, might have a bit of a dabble

Is there anything to make you want to back him other than the trainer saying he might go for the race?

The first thing I did was automatically go to check his price but after looking at him I wouldn't see the appeal at all?

            • Mister Coffey is quirky but you get the feeling that he's got a big race in him. He looks like he has more to offer so could be very well handicapped . Henderson has always talked him up.

              • Mister Coffey in the Kim Muir?! Absolutely bonkers.

14s and 16s is awful value.

                • I backed mr coffey any race at 25s ages ago and think it was a waste of money tbh, hes no plot job he just seems to be a bit useless

Plenty of ability but the issue lies between his ears i reckon

They’ve known for some time now he needs to go left handed and needs 3 miles....it is very clear they have been protecting his mark for some time now. He has to avoid his one howler he makes most races. Clearly from others comments I am in a minority but I have been waiting for the left handed 3 mile scenario and am happy they’ve waited for the festival....though suspect I may be alone in cheering him on. I did highlight him on here when he was 25s any race with Sky and 5s to place any race (5places for handicaps) though I suspect most thought I’d lost my marbles.

Why can’t he be a plot job when he has purposefully been campaigned over the wrong trip and the wrong way round...and has been placed so wide in his races that he has given away dozens of lengths in running too.

Yes there is, but luckily for me Rooster has saved me from having to explain, he’s done it for me.

                        • Five Star Getaway owner on Twitter asking which UK amateurs are available for this… Heavily supported for Kempton handicap on Saturday but not in the betting for this as yet. Fwiw, I’m not convinced he’d be the stoutest stayer over the KM test but prices would be interesting to see

I'll take a proper look later on

I mean I hope he is having backed him pre season but he just looks a big uncoordinated dope to me

If you get the time Kev watch the videos of the last two runs where he was kept very wide and jumped left on right handed tracks. Both runs screamed 3 miles and left handed to me and the fact he went right handed again after Kempton and essentially hid behind LHomme strongly suggested handicap mark to me.

one thing that is also interesting with him is that every time he has run with a mark his rpr has exceeded his OR often by a fair bit

yes he can be a bit of a monkey, yes he often puts in one really bad jump but I am convinced he is a chunk better than 137 with the right set of conditions.
