  • Be worth a try rich
id probably focus on Saturday racing though.
Not sure laying midweek or Saturday will always be viable for everyone though
But even without that it’s a nice idea.

Id probably go with winner stays on also, rather than four week stints

Yeah im sure there would be issues for some people that I haven't thought of.
Theres no issues of any kind for myself so i could be overlooking stuff.
When you say laying midweek will not be viable for everyone, do you mean from a funding perspective? As in not having the funds available to lay at a big enough price? I hadnt really thought of that, if that is an issue for a lot of people then that is a fly in the ointment.

My thinking with the four week thing was to give everyone a good crack at getting a winner. If it's winner stays on then there could be scenarios where someone has a 40/1 close second and we want them to have another go but we have to move on from them to someone else. Would be a bit annoying I'd say. I think even two weeks per person would be better if four is too much.

Just looking at the naiad every year, it's hard not to feel we dont take advantage of what we have here as much as we should. Find myself Sitting there watching us crashing a horses price and thinking "why aren't we doing this a lot more".

      • Midweek for market liquidity
And generally for everyone anyway as depending on prices the laying may require reasonable deposits
I get annoyed and disagree with other people’s selections enough so four weeks and I’d have likely opted out. I’d be fairly sure a lot would agree with that.
If the 40-1 was suggested each way then by all means.

        • Ah right yeah, I suppose the liquidity could be an issue.
it's the sort of thing where I'm not really sure how much of an issue it would be exactly until I at least did it once, and then see how much many people are on here complaining afterwards. To gauge whether there's too many issues with it going forward.
People wouldnt even have to fully lay off stakes if they wanted to of course, they could just partially lay off if that would help a bit, although even that may ne hard to do, I'm not sure.
my thinking was that even if we do get annoyed with someone else's selection, if it's a free hit, then who cares to an extent as its not costing us anything. Although of course we would still be annoyed thinking that there was a better selection available at a price. I was initially thinking win only just to keep stakes lower but if each way was preferable for the majority then we'd go with that.

          • I don't want to speak for everyone, but the laying off side of it I doubt will be for many on here.
It would be a nice to have. For those that want to.

But I think there may be enough interest to have an organised team bet each week anyway, for fun.
If people can get to lay them off then that's up to the individual, but I'd imagine most won't bother or have the means or inclination to do so.

Like I said previously I think the winner stays on method (short stints) would help keep the majority interested, cos even if amongst losing spells we'd have someone new having a go each week.
I don't think the free hit will apply to the majority as explained above.

See what others say, but I'd gladly join in. For a laugh.
Got to be at least as good as my usual flat season form.
Which for most years seems to be trying to lose all Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown profits by the Chester May meeting.

A lot of points were on the premise that the majority would be laying off for a free hit weekly once the price crashes. But if that is problematic and won't be a big part of it, then a lot of my points can be disregarded.

When I was saying a multiple week stint for the one person, that was if we would be selecting a high priced horse whose price would be easier to crash, in which case i was think each person would like more than one go at it given its difficulty. But I would agree with the one week per person and you stay on if your selection wins or places, if we're selecting 8/1 shots for example.

I still think a minimum price limit would be a good idea. Would seem like a lot of fuss over nothing if people are putting up 4/1 shots. Something like a juicy 16/1 minimum price I think would be a bit more exciting.

By 'star' do they mean winner? Bob Olinger, 2nd in the Lismullen Hurdle last November, a G2, or Jasmin De Vaux, the winner of only a maiden hurdle in December.

                • One of the paragraphs in this article made me laugh, and I'm not sure why.
Just a random obsession with colours

Simcock, who wore a dark blue Stone Island sweater, grey-blue trousers, brown trainers and had a yellow Aldi carrier bag with him, spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address as well as entering his pleas to the two charges. He was silent for the remainder of the hearing, sitting on a chair in the centre of the pink-carpeted courtroom.
I wonder what colour the chair was ?

                  • …..love this fella, have a happy retirement Galvin;

Trainer Gordon Elliott has called time on the racing career of Galvin.

Winner of 13 races including bumpers, hurdles and over fences, the 11-year-old was pulled-up in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham earlier this month, having been fourth to I Am Maximus is last year's Randox Grand National and runner-up in the American Grand National at Far Hills in October.

Galvin claimed Grade 1 glory at dramatic finish to the 2021 Savills Chase at Leopardstown and his most recent success was in a Grade 3 at Punchestown the following autumn.

In a statement posted on X, Elliott wrote: "Happy retirement to Galvin.

"After a very successful career, which included winning the Grade 1 Savills Chase and a second in the American National, Galvin will enjoy his retirement with his owner Ronnie Bartlett.

                    "Thanks for the memories Galvin."

Bizarre paragraph that doesn't really fit with the rest of the article. Journalist either using an AI to write the article or maybe he's writing a novel and conflated it with his actual day job

You'd really have to study a person to notice what brand of supermarket bag they were carrying. In saying that, we don't have Aldi in Northern Ireland, so if I saw someone carrying one, I'd be suspicious

I thought they were referring to a race last week but maybe wrong.

Beat by a legend in his first Martin Pipe. He was ridden like defeat was out of the question until GDC put his turbo on.

I still remember the silence when he was brought down in his 2nd Martin Pipe.

Double Coral Cup winner. Close to winning the grade 1 at Aintree last year.

Probably one of the more important horses in Dan Skeltons career.

Hope he has a happy retirement.

Imagine beating the rest of the field by 9 lengths in a martin pipe just to bump into the highest rated horse of the generation off 142
