I am going to be watching that race through my fingers. I want him to win soooooo bad. Everytime the bookies pushed him out, i went in, 7/4, 2/1, 15/8, 9/4, 11/4, 3/1, 4/1............. i would love to sit here all smug giving the fingers to the bookies 'i got it right, you f*cked up'

      • I trebled Sir Gino, Constitution Hill and Lossie early December and let it run. There will be a big if only if the other two win.

Well he looked all right in the Kings Arms with Charlie Swan last night!

          • Been a quiet season on here for me, no global pandemic, no trainer sitting on horses, no weather scares.

i nearly popped up the other day when forecasts did potentially show -3 -4 overnight temps

Best of luck today everyone the greatest 4 days of the year!

                • Well today has been a bit of a bloodbath!. Hopefully all the horses and jocks are okay.I’m now relying on transmission in the last for profit today. Shame I had him at fancy prices for the Kim Muir though. Who’d have thought day 1 with 4 shorties would be this eventful.

                  • Strange old day. Betting wise, it is what it is for me. I go full book and tend to make most an equal (or close enough) winner. Golden Ace was a better winner than Constitution Hill for me. But I must admit that after the feeling of confusion and discombobulation subsided I felt quite deflated. We were robbed of a great clash. The mare didn't turn up, but even then, State Man was on for his best ever Cheltenham performance (and perhaps his best ever full stop). Constitution Hill couldn't have been far beneath his best to have beaten him today in my opinion. Absolutely fair play to connections of Golden Ace, they deserve it, but it did seem like a day that was missing a top race, and that's not likely to be delivered by the Championship races on Weds or Thurs either.

The RPR's make for interesting reading. A potential superstar in a great race in the Supreme. Awarded an RPR of 160 which rates a good rather than extraordinary winner which is fair enough I think given how close Romeo and William Munny were. However, I think the three of them could be very good and the form of the race will work out well (much better than last years, anyway).

The Arkle was won by a stayer who in the jockeys words "will never run over 2 miles again" with the potential new shiny thing back in third after jumping everything either a 1/10 or a 10/10. Much better to be an average and consistent jumper when you've an engine like that. The winner was awarded an RPR of 161 which is the lowest (weight adjusted) in the last 10 years.

The Mares is won with a higher RPR than the Champion Hurdle. And I think it underestimates how much Lossie had in hand and also how well those in behind her ran. I'd have that 160+. Jetara ran her race and is a 145 horse.

The Champion Hurdle is won with a rating of 154, which is potentially generous. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were all hampered by State Man falling, so I couldn't have Burdett Road running a career best.

                    • Sort of day that makes you wonder if its worth the stress. See what the rest of the week brings but tbh just think its been a strange season all round. Can't work out if I want to re-watch the CH 100 times over or never again.

                      • Bloody strange day is right. Started like a train then almost instantly hit the buffers with the Arkle and CH.

Hope it is more of a regular day tomorrow. The Naiad going in would kickstart the week, although there are a few nice ones before that (probably all fall though )

Must admit, I was left feeling this way too.

So so gutted Constitution Hill fell. The video of Nicky shouting 'Oh no' really hit home how much it means to them. I was and still am adament Constitution Hill was going to propel himself to the top of the list of best ever 2m hurdlers, but such is life, if you can't get over the obstacles you can't end up in that list.

To top it off Lossiemouth won a race she shouldn't have been in and them two last races were brutal for me. Much preferred the ease of the old NH Chase from a betting perspective. One less race for me to bother with next season, if I decide to carry on.

That race really drove home how unnecessary another staying handicap chase is. It was rinse and repeat from the Ultima. Best handicapped horse leading the whole way round, nothing can lay a glove on it. I'll save chatter about "how I'd sort the festival out" for the down days in June and July.

Making it a handicap did at least mean we dodged the unedyifying specactle of 4 horses shlecking around a bog getting every wearier, but the fest seems to be stacking loads of similar races. I'm going on Thursday with my usual crew who are casual fans and they were looking over it and said "are we going to watch the same race twice?"

Guess the choice is that or watching dancing city win at 1/2
