  • Hoping someone can help?
Hendo is taking some of his horses to Kempton on Tuesday for a public gallop.
Anyone know exactly how public this is?
    Could anyone just turn up?
Im thinking probably not, but I would go if I knew I could get in to watch.
Cant phone the course until tomorrow morning.
    Any help be greatly appreciated
    Cheers

You'll be fine to go in mate, I'd call the course just to find out what time its expected to happen and where to go in from, usually they'd have you go through the stables entrance if there's no racing on but best to check first as they might open the main doors given they'll be a few people who'd want to go and see this

      • Hi all,

first post after being a recent reader - really good and informative forum.

I wonder if any of the great brains on here can help with a handicapping question. The weights for the handicaps are set this Tuesday I believe. When the handicapper publishes weekly marks on a Tuesday it covers runs up till the previous Saturday but not the Sunday (which are held over to the following week). Does this mean that anything running today would not be re-assessed before the Cheltenham weights are published (and I assume carry a penalty if winning)? For example, if Salver were to win today would his mark of 148 be re-assessed for the Coral Cup or would it be left alone (and be given a penalty) ? More pertinently does this also refer to the Irish horses running today - in the Pertemps qualifier would the 1st-4th not have this run taken into account (even though its their qualifying run)? That wouldn't really make sense to me but would be good to know what happens. Thx for any help.

I'm not certain, but I think for the cheltenham handicaps they will take sunday's racing into account.
Basically all races up to the qualifying date - today 23rd.

          • For the Festival weights, they include today's races when completing the BHA ratings and Festival weights.

So today is assessed and Ratings updated for today's runs too.

Otherwise the Pertemps Qualifier in Naas couldn't happen at this time in the Racing Calendar.

The 23rd Feb, today, is listed in each of the Festival Handicaps conditions, as the last day for ratings, and any win beyond today would incur a 5lb penalty for a Festival handicap.

Thx - makes sense I suppose. Not sure why they just don't include Sunday every week or simply have the cut off for Cheltenham as Saturday. Can't say I am a fan of the sport making new rules and processes such as this and the number of handicap runs solely for Cheltenham - its very illogical and makes things very confusing.

They've done this for Grand National Weights too.

Usually include the Sunday before weights are announced.

Don't need to include British Sunday racing for handicaps that much as its usually poor racing that wouldnt get too many horses entered in Big Race Early Entry Handicap weights conversations.

                    • Guys does anyone know what time we can actually access the handicap weights today? Hopefully still get chance to get on the ones we think are good value before the price goes?

Is it not tomorrow the weights are released? They normally release to the media and embargo them for 24 hours or have done recently.

                          • Noticeable that it was Frank Berry who announced that Kawaboomga was out, and not the yard itself.

Yeah, but yet again the exchanges told the story prior to the information being released.

Didn't see the outcry like when it happened with any Hendo horse!

                              • Some yards can get away with murder CoD while others couldn't be more accommodating yet it's still not good enough, you'll never see a Tizzard horse drift on the exchange before an announcement, just saying there are some out there who aren't looking to steal some pennies when the opportunity presents itself.
